Going to the grocery store in Japan can often be a harrowing experience for this gaijin. When I first came here as a student, I was completely overwhelmed by what I found (and couldn't find). I feel ya sista. ;_; Actually, there can be bargains to be had on fruit if you shop at the new Tokyu Store supermarket (right by the stn) after 8 or 9 PM.

Or, there's a little fruit/ veggie shop close to my house (I'll have to point it out to you sometime) that's pretty cheap, but shopping there is a harrowing experience and the cashiers are always sassy, so I prefer to go to Tokyu. Daiei is almost always more expensive, and don't even think about The Garden!!

I want to cry a little every time I look at the fruit at my grocery store. All I ever buy is bananas... they're usually pretty cheap.

Wow. Maybe things would be cheaper if they just heaped them in a pile like US grocery stores instead of individually wrapping them and tying bows around them? Just a thought... ;)
