Icon making...

... confuses me at times. I make a lot of icons, and I look at icon tutorials just to get a sense of what's out there and what creative folks are doing, and at times I have a hard time finding anything that I think of as really very creative

I just wish i knew more.. all i can manage is to crop, and maybe enhance, but that's it. The biggest problem is that i don't have photoshop, and even if i did, i doubt i'd be able to come up with anything halfway decent. (^^ see pathetic effort *sigh*) I've looked at the tutorials, but i end up more confused than when i started. And anyway, i think you're right when you say that icon making is a talent. You have to have the right 'eye'.. yours are always so lovely. It's easier to leave it to the experts, but sometimes you want something a bit more individual.

I totally understand. Photoshop is daunting, no mistake. And lord knows I'm happy to make icons for my friends. If there's ever a special picture you want iconized... let me know.

you create wonderful icons hun, but i know what you mean. tutorials can all be the same. i'm doing one myself, but that's for those who don't know where to start with making a basic icon. after that, it's all the same. as you say, there are thousands of colors to play with, it's just the techniques that are used to get them.

i think it is an art form in itself and design has a lot to do with it. a lot of design or none at all. actually, a lot of my icons are happy mistakes.
