Ok, right after I posted this the rest of the chapter got up, so I can now leave a more detailed comment.
I'm actually really scared for both Al and Oregon. I mean, I know they'll be ok in the end, they have to be, but I'm still scared for them.

Vermont is absolutely adorable, being able to step up and help out like that. And Arthur, poor Arthur...at least he was here for this one.

And I think I agree with you on the 13 colonies as not being Al's kids. I mean, I write them as his kids, but it makes little sense.
