Tofu!

Sep 04, 2007 07:44

Anyone have good recipes that use (firm) tofu? Additionally, does anyone have any tips/advice about cooking with it?

I recently broke down and tried tofu at a restaurant. I thought it was pretty good, so I want to try experimenting with it myself.

if you had fried tofu (it has kind of a skin on it, it's what most restaurants serve) i don't know how to make that. but i use firm or extra-firm tofu all the time. i usually stir-fry, which can be tricky because the oil has to be really hot. the order of cooking things depends on your stove, i usually cook chopped onions at the same time and on my stove in boston i'd saute the onions first then add the tofu after a few minutes (because the stove had an off setting and a Satan's Anus setting), but here i have to put the tofu in first (cooking the onions for too long makes them kind of gross). you generally stir fry the tofu (in chunks, i usually make them about .5" cubes) until it turns a bit golden brown before adding anything else, except whatever spice you want to sear it in if you choose to do so. also, it's pretty much impossible to overcook it unless you REALLY try ( ... )
