Quick life update:

Melbourne has been great so far! The weather is lovely and cool (except the unbearably hot days the second week I was here), and my studies are not thaaaaat difficult yet because it's mostly things I've learnt back in high school. I adore my new room, and there's always plenty of fun with my classmates and even the people in the year ahead of me. ( Read more... )

So nice to hear some updates regarding your life in Melbourne! /hgs
And even nicer to hear that you like it there and that most of it is awesome (I feel you regarding the dish washing - it's the main reason I'm kinda married to the dishwasher).

As said previously on flickr, the adrorableness of both you and Auri combined just kills me ♥

(some buses here don't run on the WE as well, mainly to the smaller villages which sucks for people living there as it gets pretty damn hard to get to Starnberg to catch the train to Munich if you don't have a car)

I want to marry your dishwasher too. D: I've been so lazy to do them that sometimes I swap chores with my friend and iron his clothes while he washes my dishes.

Awww, love the photos! [Commented over at DoA too.] You two are too cute together. <333333333

Glad Melbourne is treating you well. Now you just need to get a maid. ^___^

Thank you! SDs seem so large in real life but look so small next to a human, and I'm only of average height. XD

I love Melbourne, especially now since the weather is cool and perfect. The wind's really strong, though. I doubt my monthly allowance stretches to cover the cost of hiring a maid, and mine back home says she doesn't want to come with me cos she's afraid of the cold HAHAHAHA. I will pretend chores... build character, or something, and do them anyway.

Glad you're having fun here!
Yeah, buses aren't really considered public transport here because of how unreliable they are. A lot of them don't even run after 8pm on weeknights. Trains and trams is the way to go.
I would suggest driving your car to the nearest train station and parking there, and then catching the train into the city. The myki system isn't too complex, you can get a card from most stations, or from 7-11s and some other convenience stores/newsagents. Put some money on it and then you're set to go. You just need to touch your card onto the green card readers when you enter and exit train stations, buses and trams, and it works out how much to take off. Most of the time it's no more than $6-7 for the whole day. Weekends and public holidays are even cheaper, only $3.50 for the whole day, no matter where you go.

I must get one of my friends to show me around the train network. XD *clueless about public transport* I do know that the closest station here is Huntingdale, which also apparently sits in between Zones 1 and 2? Also the myki card is oddly similar yet different to the card system we have in Singapore -- here, you have to take the card out to tap it (the card readers back home can detect the card in your wallet/purse), but the transport fare sounds reasonable! Must go city-exploring soon, since I have a one-week break. Happy Easter!

Ah, that means that if you go in the direction away from the city, it will charge you a zone 2 fare, but if you go towards the city, it will charge you a zone 1 fare. I live near one of those stations that borders the zones too.
The card readers are pretty terrible, sometimes I have to rub my card to get it to read, so frustrating!
Have a good Easter too! :D

We have a card system in Boston too! The Charlie card, named after a song about a guy who couldn't pay his exit fare and had to live on the train forever. But now there are no exit fares ;) I'm with you on the weekend buses! The big deal here now is whether they will add back the midnight - 2 a.m. service that they used to have on weekends, but which was ended a few years ago. Anyway! ;) You and Auri are toooo cute together! I realized I have a shirt that matches Henry and fabric to make Jane a matching dress too, so maybe someday ;)

Yea, nightlife in the city practically guarantees that you need a midnight train/bus service! Especially on eves and holidays, when more people head out to celebrate. Pleeeeeeeeease take a photo of you and Henry in those matching shirts! It would be all sorts of adorable, y/y?

Thank you! I am not very photogenic so it's hard to get me to look normal and not sleepy or tense in pictures. XD I hate being caught in candid photos because of this. So thank you for your compliments, I appreciate them a lot. /hugs
