It's not on a cheezburger site (thank god, or I'd never visit one again). It's on shit my kids ruined.

But yeah, I couldn't believe the damned thing was still up

That is one VERY VERY GOOD cat and one very misguided child. :( Loen would NEVER have dared to try to pick up any of our pets at that age!!! As soon as he was able to crawl after then, I started teaching him how to treat them right (which included not picking them up until he was bigger). It's never too early to teach a young human how to treat animals.

(Even now at age 5 he won't try to pick up one of our critters by himself because he's been taught not to yet, but if I hand them to him he'll hold them gently. I like it that way because I know the animals aren't being loved to death by an adoring 5yo.)

What annoys me is the parent is on the site justifying it.

"Chris Matuszak--Wow..people..get a life !! She was just 2 yrs old !! (How many of you animal lovers have had a 2 yr old ?) And TAMI YOU are the worst kind of person. You see a picture, a MOMENT in time and make conclusions. Here's how it went down.. This was taken right after Christmas 3 yrs ago, so she was ALMOST 2. I had a new camera I received for Christmas and was playing around with it at the time. Melly grabbed the cat, my son said "Dad, look Melly has the cat!" I turned, snapped the picture, and told her to put the cat down. Which she did. Then I explained to her that the Kitty doesn't enjoy getting picked up like that. Is she a "Brat" OH YEAH !!! A lot of lonely people commenting on this I guess..."

Because of course you SHOULD take the few seconds to frame the shot before reprimanding your child. *eyeroll* What a fucking society we are.

A few seconds can mean a lot to an animal. And it's really not that hard to teach a child to treat an animal right, even a 1yo. I know -- I've done it. It just requires paying attention to your child and spending the time to tell them not to do that (over and over and over again) and if you start when the child's not even 1 yet, they never get to the point where they really hurt an animal.

Did I tell you the Pomeranian we found last summer was terrified of small children? She couldn't even stand to be around other kids (other than Loen) for as long as minute last year. Now? She'll make it 10 minutes around kids other than Loen and wait until they start to get too familiar and not so gentle before she gets ultra-nervous. It just takes teaching the kid how to be calm and gentle and kind (which will serve them well in more areas than just how to treat pets).

Well see, I figure that even if the cat could breathe (and it probably could, if with difficulty), it had to be damned uncomfortable! Now, I donno about this chris dude, but when I'M uncomfortable, (especially when my hip decides to go wonky) a few seconds is a LONG DAMNED TIME.

I mean, the kid doesn't need to be punished for that, no, just to have done what he did do, but immediately, not after the obligatory picture. My parents wouldn't have photographed it. I'd have been told to put the kitty down so i didn't hurt him and would I like to be picked up by MY neck?
