New art stuff and a wish for you all...

Yesterday was wonderful. The boy and I went out to a used bookstore to find "new" art journals for jademondin and myself. I wanted one that definitely looked old and had lots of character. He has an amazing eye. He found two of them, similar in size, although mine is thicker. This bookstore was jammed full of old books (and smelled like it too!). He ( Read more... )

I have 2 of those pens: an orange one and a lime green one. :)

I have to say, thanks so much for adding me to your friends list, Rain!!! Your artwork is inspiring, and I love to read about the everyday goings on of your life. More than keeping my daily journal, you are the best thing to come out of embodiment!

Those pens look awesome... I may have to get myself a big set and start working in color more for my pen work!

Thanks for the lovely wish. Definitely brightened my day. :)

I ♥ trips to art supply stores and 2nd-hand book stores. I can't resist children's illustrated books and magazines. I try to hunt down journals too, but so far, most of what I've acquired are slightly used planners (with pencil entries in 2 - 3 pages). I have to look harder.

Your boy has a talent for finding treasures. You're lucky ;)

Oh, and have fun with the markers. :)

Actually, the books weren't real journals. They were just regular old books. We just go ahead and paint, collage and write all over them anyway. The old bindings add character. You just have to make sure you don't care too much about the book to begin with. That part is hard for me because I just LOVE books.

I also like children's books. The artwork in a lot of them is fantastic! I went to a museum once and saw a show wherein they had the original artist's work for several children's books. Very enlightening.

Yes, the boy has that eye...I don't know why he doesn't just spread his wings a little and try to make his own art ;). Every so often I try to give him a nudge that way. Last year, when we went to Italy, he actually kept a journal and made sketches in it. I was so happy that I was grinning at him so much I thought my cheeks would fall off. *LOL*

Oh, now I understand. I haven't tried to do anything like that. If i found an old book with interesting binding I'll probably wrap it in sheets and preserve it. :P I have to go look for something and turn in into a journal too.

In one exhibit opening I heard a speaker say that children's book are like small portable museums. She's very right, and since then that's how I felt about the illustrated books. More than a year ago, I joined an organization of artists, and majority of them are illustrators of books published locally. On some meetings, they'd bring along their works for a bit of a Show and Tell. I can't resist clapping my hands after the session. ;p
