Hahaha, now I'm imagining Brendon going around telling that to people on the days he's feeling overconfident, before it ever becomes a real possibility. (Before they get married, I mean. Obvs.) He just goes around, telling Jon or someone, "Dude, I'd be the sickest stepdad ever. No, for real! I'm being serious!"
There is a lot about Eli in my head, I'll admit. Or, well, there's just a lot about Brendon and Shia's shenanigans in my head always, it's just sometimes there's a little boy there, too. /o\
Oh God, I have been wanting to read more about this whole Shia with a son-verse thing since you told me about it, and I was GONE when you posted this, and I was sad about it. But now I have read it! Brendon's gonna be a STEPDAD!
More of this 'verse forever. I need it in my life.
I am wretchedly fond of Shia and his hypothetical kid, dude, I can't deny it. BRENDON IS GONNA BE HIS STEPDAD. Like, you know, with the picking him up from school sometimes and all that. I bet the first time Brendon has to do it, he's just like, man, okay, hopefully Eli isn't one of those kids that makes himself hard to find. It would be way embarrassing if the first time Shia trusted Brendon to get his son, Brendon couldn't find him for an hour or something. He also gets to the school early, because he knows every kid hates to be the last one picked up.
Oh, that is just ridiculously cute. Like, once Brendon has to take him shopping for something. I don't know, like, whatever, dinner or something because Shia gets caught up on set, right. And he wanders off and Brendon is FREAKING OUT because he thinks he accidentally lost Eli, and it's SCARY OKAY, so when he sees him over by the whatever, he maybe yells a little but he doesn't mean it. HE WAS JUT REALLY SCARED.
I bet he feels super bad though, about getting at all hysterical. In the beginning, I think Brendon is extremely cautious about not overstepping his bounds or ever coming off like he thinks he has any authority when it comes raising Eli. And then as it becomes clear that he and Shia are, yeah, they're going to be together for a long time, Brendon has to learn how to take on that third parent role.
He's never been responsible for anyone else for any prolonged period of time, but a few years after he and Shia get back together, they get engaged. Brendon has to stop and think about how, whoa, Eli will be his stepson once they're married! Like, when they send home those notes requesting a parent or guardian for a routine meeting with the teacher, like, Brendon can show up. As a parent! He's not just, oh, Eli's father's boyfriend; he'll be his stepdad! THAT'S HUGE.
