Reading this reminds me of the book I am reading right now. Not the context, but the style.
I think you might enjoy it.
I'm about a third ofthe way through and have already laughed loudly several times becuase of his wording/descriptions.
I recommend it, if you have not read it already

As an aside, I think I commented anonymously on it in the meme, but your Nero/D'Spal was amazing, and remains one of my favourites... It does not surprise me to find out it is yours as well!

And so! Thank you! Iiii am honestly relieved to discover that my fixation with Romulans in general now has a practical application. (That meme, I don't know how I would justify any of this to the world without it, haha.) Very glad to entertain you, milady, and I'll do my best to keep at it! :D

There were a lot of things McCoy could say to that. He could say: it seems like it's always night here. He could say: the man was my closest friend and I'll kill you if I hear you speak about him again. He could say: yeah.
Except for bits like this, which tear holes in various of my fragile, wobbly tissues.
Also, is it a bad sign that I... really love the camaraderie of the Enterprise crew as they gather around to eat their captain in an exquisitely symbolic last supper, etc.? They're creepy but they're also kind of sweet, or at least they retain that shell of sweetness over the underlying wrongness. They're the creepier for it, of course, but still. And then the conversation between Ayel and Nero happens, and it's so comforting, so classically inhuman in their impracticality and their honor.
What I'm trying to say is nnnngh.
