Oz the Great and Powerful sucks wet farts out of dead pigeons. There are many reasons for this, including the fact that the main character is (I think) supposed to be a clever, charismatic rogue, and instead is a boring jerk, and in consequence of him being a boring jerk, all the other characters who are supposed to fall all over him fawning have

Oh, don't forget the Madonna/Whore standard that's beaten into the audience! I hated it, too.

It wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, but lord, it wasn't good.

Have you read L. Frank Baum's Oz books? I love Glinda in the books. She's wise and powerful and really splendid.

cheer yourself up with Wolverine

I just went to see Wolverine, and it was surprisingly good. Much, much better than the first one. Two genuine, interesting, well-rounded, strong and unconventional female characters with actual story lines of their own. I might even see it twice.

Since I read, and adored, Wicked and its sequels I will never be able to take any alternative view of Oz seriously.

I liked Wicked all right, but have been progressively less enchanted with the sequels. I finally figured out that it's because they're the kind of fanfic where the author's lost all interest in the original canon and is just writing about their OCs. Alas, I do not particularly like McGuire's OCs.
