So let's say that you're writing a story, and you want a character to do something. For demonstration purposes, let's say that character is Spike, and what you want him to do is wear a little pink dress. The first question to ask yourself is, is wearing a little pink dress something Spike would ordinarily do

Well, I'm not gonna write it - even though I'm sure Spike would look very fetching in pink with his peaches and cream complextion - but I will say that I'd go for an emotional reason. Say...Dawn is spelled into be a little girl again and wants to play tea party with Spike. Well, of course you have to get dressed up in your finest pink formal wear to have a tea party, right? And if you set it in s6, Spike would dress in a little pink dress with a smile on his face because there's no way he's going to disappoint his Bit, especially if she's regressed in age. And he'd do it week after week until he didn't think anything of it, and beat up any demon that snickered at him.

And now I'd wish Dawn had been way younger during the show, so I could see Spike carrying her around and being forced to play with her. But my ovaries would probably explode if that had happened.

I think they actually planned to make Dawn much younger until Michelle Trachetenberg was cast, which explains a little bit why Dawn always seems so young for her age.

I'm kinda glad for that. Some of the things in s5 - Giles' suggestion about killing Dawn and Dawn being tied to the scaffold and repeatedly cut by the Doctor - would have been way more disturbing.

OTOH, seeing Spike bond with a much younger Dawn...might have been worth it. *considers*

I can't believe you remember that. I don't remember that. But I'm sure I would have fought tooth and nail that Angelus would never where a dress.

Angel totally would, but not Angelus.

Oh, God, I feel your pain! That brings back the horror challenges of working on Three Deep so much - except we didn't take votes, it all had to be consensus, which meant we argued over EVERY FREAKING THING for what felt like six months (and sometimes it was!), because none of us could agree on ANYONE'S characterization for more than six minutes at a time, and everyone (including me) had their pet characters and plot ideas who HAD to get shoehorned in even if there was nothing for them to do, and... argh. Never again. NEVER AGAIN.
