Dress Diary: Køstrup Apron Dress - Completed Dress

I ended up going with 5 rows of smocking with 1 mm stitches 6 mm apart. I think it looks cheery, and gives a good shape to the top hem of the dress.

longer smocking would be interesting - it might give more of a form fitting upper half?

Going for a longer smocking section makes me think of late 15th century German gowns. Not saying it's wrong doing it for Viking, it could look cool.

And I just realised why I hadn't started on my Køstrup dress: I had no money for suitable brooches! I know which ones I want and they are not cheap.

I like the shaping of that. It gives it an interestingly tailored look.

I'm not sure how much further down you can get without it starting to pull - this releases gracefully without getting the poufy look smocking often has.

Beautiful! The dress, the color, and the smile are all stunning! :)

I'd think the depth of the pleated area would depend on the wearer's anatomy. I'm a large-chested lady and so would need that fullness to kick in quickly, thinner folks might be happy with additional decorative area.
