The first book of Maria Snyder's Study series and her debut novel, Poison Study was recommended to me as a bolt-through-it-in-one-day read, and I have to agree with this assessment. Fire and Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones
Diana Wynne Jones is one of my favourite Fantasy authors, a sentiment I seem to share with many: her novels for children are often as popular with adults as those she writes for older readers. Cybele's Secret by Juliet Marillier
Cybele's Secret is the sequel to Juliet Marillier's first YA novel Wildwood Dancing, which rates as one of my favourite books. Gifts by Ursula le Guin
