And then Rae's head exploded

Apr 06, 2008 01:33

Ugh! I worked all day, came home to have to take my best friend to get his groceries for the month, sat on the couch with my husband for an hour before he went to bed, and then got on to have to look at crap posted by ppl who need their heads examined!

My post at stop_plagiarism brought with it a Tin Man fandom person who thinks the comm is basically a witch ( Read more... )

FWIW, the guilty party knew about the accusation long before she was contacted by the mods. The information was posted on a closed community for moderators of Tin Man comms (of which she was a member, being a mod herself), and it was discussed there. She didn't actually lock down or delete her journal until most of us, including moony_blues, had read the evidence and concluded that she'd done it.

Actually she didn't know. At the earliest would have been teh post at stop plagiarism, because no one else knew. I didn't contact any mods from your fandom until someone on the SP post reminded me I needed to do that. The only reason I can see for her not pulling it all immediately once she did find out is because she wanted you all to believe she didn't do it. I wasn't able to put up all of the evidence I have because it would have taken many posts and I think she hoped that no one would actually go looking through everything and take her word that it was just a coincedence. In fact she tried to claim she'd never heard of the fics she plagiarized on the SP post in a comment. I'm sorry if I seemed grouchy last night with this post, but I have been working 7 days a week, taking care of my family, and trying to go through all this stuff at the same time ( ... )

I... really don't care about magickboxgirl, whom she friended, how she was dealt with by SP or what her motives were. I said she knew about the accusation before she was contacted by the mods, and, as far as I can tell, she did. Even if that were not the case, which I concede it may not be, my point still stands. She knew about the accusation for several hours before she flounced, and decisive action had already been taken by the mods of the relevant communities, moony_blues being one of them, long before she flounced. I was notified of what was going on a full two days after the entry was posted, and I was still able to cap the entire third chapter of Night Swim in case we would need third-party corroboration. So your claim that she locked down her journal and flounced as soon as the accusation was made is false. In fact, even now, we have a full record of all her fics at tinman_fic, which she won't be able to delete unless she undeletes her journal, so we can catalogue any further theft at our leisure ( ... )

Moreover, moony_blues did not make any wholesale generalizations about stop_plagiarism. She referred specifically to magickboxgirl's case, and only to her case.

Rae:

We need more people like you in the fandom. What you accomplish as one person is amazing in itself. So don't run. We just need to find the technology to clone you and distribute the copies in various fandoms to keep an eye out for all of us. You so rock, girl. So don't you dare even think about leaving.

Remember, I will hunt you down and tickle the daylights out of you!

Nawwwwww :( Im in complete agreement hun, stealing fic is soooo not ok, and as such shouldnt be treated like a lil whoopsie that can be swept under the carpet. Plagiarism is intentional theft, and as such should be made public so other people can be fully aware of the situation. Im really grateful for stop_plagiarism, and the effort it takes to maintain it. *hugs*

I'm very grateful to them as well. Especially as an award site co-owner. How else are we to keep thieves out of archives and from winning awards? I just dont' get the whole plagiarist as the victim thing.

I saw she deleted her LJ. Would you warn a criminal that the police is looking for him/her, huh? You don't do that because otherwise he/her can get away. You're totally right.

And the fandom needs people like you who "fight" for others, looking out for plagiarism.

*hugs* Thank you very much. I don't feel like the fandom needs me though. Seems more like I get jumped on every time I point out stuff like this. *shrugs*

*pets* It's part of the job description to get jumped for pointing things like that out.

Is this a saying (or from TV): It's a dirty (shitty?) job but someone has to do it? Plagiarism isn't something to let be.
