And then Rae's head exploded

Apr 06, 2008 01:33

Ugh! I worked all day, came home to have to take my best friend to get his groceries for the month, sat on the couch with my husband for an hour before he went to bed, and then got on to have to look at crap posted by ppl who need their heads examined!

My post at stop_plagiarism brought with it a Tin Man fandom person who thinks the comm is basically a witch ( Read more... )

Actually she didn't know. At the earliest would have been teh post at stop plagiarism, because no one else knew. I didn't contact any mods from your fandom until someone on the SP post reminded me I needed to do that. The only reason I can see for her not pulling it all immediately once she did find out is because she wanted you all to believe she didn't do it. I wasn't able to put up all of the evidence I have because it would have taken many posts and I think she hoped that no one would actually go looking through everything and take her word that it was just a coincedence. In fact she tried to claim she'd never heard of the fics she plagiarized on the SP post in a comment. I'm sorry if I seemed grouchy last night with this post, but I have been working 7 days a week, taking care of my family, and trying to go through all this stuff at the same time.

As far as moony blues comment, that did upset me. I can understand that they are a friend of magickboxgirl's and this is hard for them, but to suggest a really good comm that helps so many in various fandoms is a witch hunt was over the top. For me, I would never have made an accusation at all if I didn't have enough proof to back it up, which I did. I do not go around accusing ppl of doing evil. I do not go around looking for plagiarists. In fact this is the first time I've outed a plagiarist.

Magickboxgirl friended me! Not the other way around! She knew I was a Spuffy shipper. She knew I have read most fics in my fandom, because I've been in this fandom for many years and have been judging, modding, and co-owning award sites for many years. Why she friended someone she knew would stand up and shout about plagiarism and also someone who is in the Spuffy part of my fandom, I have no idea.

I have also recieved another email from an SP mod and they have now found a 4th fic that is definitely plagiarized and as before it's almost word for word.

I... really don't care about magickboxgirl, whom she friended, how she was dealt with by SP or what her motives were. I said she knew about the accusation before she was contacted by the mods, and, as far as I can tell, she did. Even if that were not the case, which I concede it may not be, my point still stands. She knew about the accusation for several hours before she flounced, and decisive action had already been taken by the mods of the relevant communities, moony_blues being one of them, long before she flounced. I was notified of what was going on a full two days after the entry was posted, and I was still able to cap the entire third chapter of Night Swim in case we would need third-party corroboration. So your claim that she locked down her journal and flounced as soon as the accusation was made is false. In fact, even now, we have a full record of all her fics at tinman_fic, which she won't be able to delete unless she undeletes her journal, so we can catalogue any further theft at our leisure.

Even if that were not the case, it's hardly necessary to dump on someone for making a hasty comment in public. Especially since she took the high road and recused herself from the discussion when she realized she might not be able to participate objectively. As it stands, she did what needed to be done, even though it was hard for her, even though she was dealing with a betrayal by a friend.

Moreover, moony_blues did not make any wholesale generalizations about stop_plagiarism. She referred specifically to magickboxgirl's case, and only to her case.

I'm sorry if I offended you because that was not my intention. If moony blues was not making a generalization that was not something easily seen by the rest of us. All cases are handled this way on stop plagiarism. I followed their rules on what to do and contacted a mod of the site 3 days before I posted to make sure I was doing it correctly. As I said I do understand that moony blues is a friend of magickboxgirls and I have no problem with her wanting to be there for her friend. We have no idea what is going on in your fandom with what has happened, because this is not public knowledge. The only thing I knew when I made this post was that moony blues made several comments in SP accusing me of being basically heartless for posting to SP with this, when all I was doing was stopping a thief. Knowing now that she is close to magickboxgirl and is having to deal with such a betrayal I can understand her comments much better and know that it was not what it sounded like.

I know plagiarism is a charged topic, so I can understand why tensions were running high. I don't agree with moony_blues statement, but I do understand why she said it, and I sympathize with her, because she worked closely with magickboxgirl and entrusted a lot to her.

As it is, we owe it to you and SP that the whole business was handled so quickly and efficiently, with such a minimum of wank, and we appreciate that greatly.
