I saw this the other day and had fun coming up with what the teams would be named.

I personally liked the Strom Thurmonsters.

What I especially find absurd is that these are the same people who insist that we shouldn't have affirmative action programs to help level the playing field for college entry and refuse to accept that students of color might have any chips stacked against them, but obviously we need an all-white basketball league because none of these guys are good enough to play in the NBA or the ABA on their own merit.

That, and the fact that I now know that based on his performance on Conan O'Brien last night, Robin Williams is either black or not an American citizen.

...

Forget what year, what planet is he from that this is not racism?

Don "Moose" Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league's roster restrictions is not racism.

I do not think that word means what he thinks it means.

I lack the words to express how appalling this is.

They're not wearing the official racist uniform of white sheet and hood. Therefore they're not racist, QED. *nodnodnod*

I am wondering how this is not illegal given US law about racial nondiscrimination in public accomodations. If a pool at a private country club can be slapped for ejecting Black children, I would think the same law applies here.

I was wondering this myself. I mean, you'd think legally it'd be pretty clear-cut....

That's a good question. Perhaps there is some Money behind this intending to provoke a court battle.
