I don't think this was posted already ?

Illegal 'Alien' Halloween costume pulled from distribution

I find it particularly surprising that Amazon.com ever stocked this. They are such a huge chain!

cultural appropriation, us

I used to work for a big book/toy store chain and you never knew what was going to slip in, because so many distributors just send automatic lists of their products or of a particular line.

In one instance I was having to manually enter a list of Playmobil toys. They had a soccer/football line of individual figures wearing different countries' jerseys. One country had black and white variations with the same jersey, and the black figure was referred to as 'coloured'. I pointed it out to my manager and suggested we change the name, and he did a spit-take, and had me take that toy off the list. If I remember correctly, the toy wasn't even supposed to be on our list because only the white figure was available from our distributor, but that's another story. In both cases, that's what automation does for you.

Ffff. I didn't finish that thought. What I meant to say was, that's probably why Amazon has it up, and sometimes data can even be duplicated and hard to weed out.

Unfortunately there are still plenty of racist and/or culturally appropriative costumes to go around, like WalMart's "Mexican" costume (serape, sombrero and six-guns) and Card & Party Outlet's ( ... )

I noticed the same thing when I was at the local Party Packagers- there were "Desert Beauty" costumes (basically a stereotypical belly-dancer outfit) and an "Indian Princess" dress, complete with a wig.

Okay, those are all pretty bad.

But the geisha outfits? Beyond belief. My heavens. (Ruffled miniskirt what--?)

I don't understand how it even makes any sense. If the person has a green card, how can they possibly be an illegal alien?

Afaict, if you're the "wrong" ethnicity you remain an illegal alien even if your ancestors have been in the country since colonisation.
