In which "Hamilton" continues to save my sanity

If it wasn't for Hamilton, I would never have read Aaron Burr's journal. It continues to charm and delight; I will post more excerpts later. Like the entire last week and, for that matter, last eight months, today has been almost entirely taken up with medical stuff. I just got back from seeing one doctor and have to go do a test right now, which ( Read more... )

I love that you're sharing. I also spent half of a client session discussing Hamilton with said client, who it is also saving :)

My own therapist has been hearing quite a lot about Hamilton - I wonder if this is happening to therapists nationwide? Someone will probably write a paper eventually.

I almost want to do it, but I am going to resist!

Why resist? You could ask your client's permission. Do not throw away your shot!

I'd give you permission to use my experiences as a client too. They'd be second-hand, but I have a good memory and I assume my therapist has notes.

I would totally vote for you for Emperor of Mexico, though.

I am loving your highlight reel of Aaron Burr's journals a lot!

His journals sound appealing in the same way that Boswell's are. Except that, like Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry, Boswell never shot anyone.

It's a sobering thought that if Hamilton had shot him you wouldn't be able to read the journals today.

Based on the journals, I wonder if Hamilton getting killed was a bizarre and unexpected fluke. I can't quite call it an accident, since Burr did fire at him, but I now wonder if Burr really thought he was going to hit him, or just figured he'd miss. (Or even intended to miss, but hit him by accident.) Literally nothing ever goes right for Burr; he's a walking, talking disaster zone. I wonder if both Burr and Hamilton just assumed, based on how things normally went for Burr, that the odds of anyone getting killed in a duel with him approached zero.

If so, holy shit, what a fuck-up.
