You can donate as much money as you want, but the fact of the matter is this catastrophe is TERRIBLY mismanaged. The money can and will directly help people, but people need to be held responsible for this. We have an entire angency that is supposed to deal with emergencies and disasters, yet it took 5 days to get help down there? It takes 3 days for people to die from no water. Thousands of lives are being lost still because of mismanagement. It took 3 days to get help to tsunami victims from the US

But the reason that the united states has done well thus far is because people put aside their politics and debated over who would do a better job at whatever. politicians these days do not care about what is best for the majority of the poeple or country, they just care about getting re-elected..
as far as them not turning their back on us.. that's exactly what bush did in new orleans. when he landed, all aircraft were ordered to land- supplies waited on aircraft carriers and on land, and people were not getting rescued. Literally, there are accounts of people reporting Bush in the area "helping out" people during the newscast but when the cameras were off, the trucks and supplies literally left leaving the people with nothing again.
and as much as it would seem nice to be able to have supplies at the ready the minute a major tragedy like this happens, it's just not realistic. it takes time to collect supplies, to get it to the location, to get it to all the people in the wreckage.There is an entire
