Also, you've probably heard by now that Bryke will be at SDCC. The movie and the casting are going to inevitably come up so... yeah. Be on your toes.
I suspect that Mike and Bryan are contractually prohibited from saying anything but good things about the movie and they'll probably avoid talking about the casting controversy altogether. Kisu had to sign a non-disclosure (probably because he saw the script) and he's not even involved in the movie. I wouldn't be surprised if Mike and Bryan said positive things about the movie (because they're legally bound to do so) and the opposition took this as "Bryke's Approval" of the movie.
Agree. Even if they wanted to speak out they'd probably burn every bridge and never be able to work in Hollywood again. The blame really is on movie producers not the people who made the show.
I got in far too late to participate, but I'd like to point out that the release of the trailer got a lot of mentions of various movie blogs and sites. Type "Airbender" into the Google News and Google Blog searches, and you get several dozen hits over the last few days. An easy way to get the Racebending argument out there is to target the comments sections of these articles. Posting a quick explanation of our position and/or a link to more info should be safe enough to avoid any backlash while still getting the point across.
First off, can we please stop calling them "Bryke"? The name combo thing is cute with shipping, but they are two seperate people and it just sounds dumb. Second, we already know that Sifu Kisu has signed a non-disclosure agreement that keeps him saying anything negative about the movie. However if he did approve of the movie I'm sure Nickelodeon/Paramount would love to have him go around singing his praises and I'm sure the same rings true for Mike and Brian. At this point I firmly believe that they're collective silence is an indicator that they do not approve of the casting of the film.
Heh...same here. Sorry, I usually don't combine their names, since it does sound like a shipping name and does sound a little odd when I think about it, but I do it on occasion when I'm typing in a hurry. I think other people use at a term of endearment or just to be silly, but I agree that we probably shouldn't do it because of the fact that they are two seperate, and extremely awesome people. I mean, without them, Avatar probably wouldn't have even been created in the first place.
Sorry for the double post, but I had an idea for a "People Against Racebending symbol". How about a bright yellow headband? Yellow as Aang's monk robes, and a headband like in the episode, "The Headband", where in the end all the students are wearing their belts like headbands to aid in Aang's escape, as well as a symbol of their unity. We could also wear it like a scarf or ribbon.
I like it. I'll add that to the stuff I'll buy for my impromptu photoshoot and I'll post about it hopefully next week. Hopefully, the entire comm can talk about it better then.
I like the headband idea also! Would the color be a 'Yellow-orange' by chance? Because, when I think of 'Yellow' (like, lemon-colored), I think about those 'Support Our Troops' ribbons, and people might get confused with THAT. >_>;;

I hope I'm wrong...

... or anything about the production, I wonder. From what we have seen so far, a lot more than the cast is being white-washed.
