Got these off a post in AvatarSpirit. Nickelodeon is now showing ads promoting the KCA, with Jackson Rathbone and Nicola Peltz doing some slime-bending. It's also possible that Dev Patel will make an appearance at Kid's Choice. Anyway the interesting bit is the new screen from the advert

I feel kinda insulted by the fake Asian characters. It's like, that's what the Asian language looks like to you? Complete gibberish? Like it doesn't have an internal logic and coherence (that just happens to be different from the internal logic and coherence of the English language)?

Why are they having such trouble with people's names? Duh, clearly didn't watch the original show...

The nice thing about the Chinese Hanzi that was used in the show was that hanzi was adopted into the Japanese (kanji), Korean (hanja), and other Asian writing systems.

So the first smile we see and it's at what should be a serious moment.. it also looks a bit awkward. Maybe it's out of context, but even so it's an odd moment to pick.

Good god! That 'writing' looks terrible, it looks like the scribbles I did after I drew after seeing Mulan (I was nine, so it isn't like I could research actual Chinese characters)

It does seem that they wanted the Asian-ness but not to explicitly tie it to one country, be it China, Korea or Japan. However, I think the classical script used in the cartoon did have sufficient distance, and it's not really a problem if the entire Avatar-verse uses it.

Not to mention Chinese, Korean, and Japanese all have their roots from the classical version of East Asian calligraphy writing used on the show. There is a reason why they picked that form of calligraphy and it wasn't just for distance, but for inclusion--that calligraphy influenced a ton of Asian writing systems.

Only someone fluent in Chinese can tell the difference between the authentic calligraphy and the squiggles in that screen cap. That's why the show was so interesting to me--I was surprised to find that the Chinese writing on the show was actually readable and not

I study Japanese - and frequently people are asking me to translate some Chinese or Korean cause I looks all the same to them. So yeah, I can see people who are not familiar with these writing systems falling for this crap.
