I'm curious though; they talk about the general audience's reactions to the attempts at verisimilitude, but what it seems like what we are dealing with here is more about the (general)audience not understanding or not caring or not knowing. It's almost like having a move where the characters are driving around in a cardboard-box and pretending it's a car, and no one in the audience even notices it's a cardboard-box.
Well, I wager the not-understanding/not-knowing thing comes from the default-I-see-white-people thing... and the not-caring thing is the I-insist-that-I-am-color-blind-thing-when-really-I'm-just-uncomfortable-with-thinking-about-race-racism-and-the-history-that-goes-along-with-it.
