OMG PUPP1ES!!!

Last night, I volunteered at a local dog rescue I support. (Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue - check em out! That's my dog on the front page!). They announced last week that they had a dog surrendered to them who was pregnant with ELEVEN puppies, and since it was so many and she was so young, they'd need round-the-clock supervision for the ( Read more... )

OMG! Iz ded of teh cute.

Seriously, though, they are adorable. And "Go, you!" for taking the overnight shift. I love puppies. I love dogs too. And cats. After believing for some time that I was a "dog person" (we always had dogs when I was growing up) and then sharing houses/apartments with people with cats and eventually adopting my own cat (Czar Nicholas, who is a shelter cat who basically adopted me), I've concluded that I'm just an animal person.

Oh, and I also have to agree with the amazingness that is Matty's audio book reading. I actually like some of James Patterson's earlier work (the original Alex Cross mysteries are pretty good), but while "Toys" initially drew me in, there were times when I wondered whether it was hard for Matt to read some of the more ridiculous prose. Not, of course, that I bought an audio book just to listen to Matt read or anything. :)

I am an animal person too! I've had cats now for 11 years, and really love them. I mean, not just the animals (because I do), but the idea of having them around, and they stir within me this protective instinct. When a person says to me, "I hate cats," then my estimation of them as a person plummets immediately. I also suspect that people who say these things (usually men) are, at heart, misogynists, because cats are so universally identified as feminine, and I feel they feel threatened. Unfair of me to characterize an entire population based on a casual observation without empirical evidence? Sue me - they started it. :D ( ... )

Puppehs are the cutest. While I'm a cat person (because you can give them food, water and a clean litter box and be gone all day, with dogs not so much), I am definitely a puppeh/kitteh person. They are opening a shelter within walking distance to my apartment and I already know I am so not allowed to go there because I will want to bring home all the kittehs and puppehs ( ... )

Yes, Matt's reading is wonderful, and I am here to say I wouldn't have stuck with the story had he not been doing it. It's not that I'm not "into" the scifi aspects of it, though i'll admit, I was surprised to see PAtterson writing such stuff ( I've only ever read his Alex Cross books). There are two things that are grating on my nerves ( ... )

The puppies are adorable. We have a litter of three black kittens who have decided to sleep under my bed.

I haven't listened to Toys yet. Only reason I'm going to is Matt Bomer. If you notice, this book is written by James Patterson and some other guy. Patterson works with a lot of new authors and helps them get published, so the book is probably only 10% Patterson.

Could be - seems reasonable. Though I notice 50% of the cover is taken up by Patterson's name... *snerk*

THREE KITTENS?!? That's so awewome. How big are they?

And they've already got twice as many families who want to adopt them than they need - I love that!

Cuuuuuute!!! The puppies are adorable! Though I must admit that I'm more of a cat person. Oh, and the German in me needs to points out that it's, "Ach, mein Gott." (No E at the end of 'mein'.) :o)

As for Toys, hm, looks like I like badly written pop culture novels. Because I actually didn't think there was anything wrong with Patterson's writing. Granted, it's not the classiest or most well-written book, but I found it a pleasant distraction that was fun to listen to. I think I would have also liked it if it had been read by someone other than The Bomer. So, yeah, I'm kinda cheap and unsophisticated that way. ;o)

Thanks! Clearly my German is sub-par. Also, that's all the German I know.

Hehe, no worries. I could now explain to you that "meine" is the female form and "mein" the male form. And in German, God is clearly male. But that concept might be hard to grasp for an English speaker because you only have "the". We have three different "the"s, one male, one female and one neutral. And the usage is totally illogical, because for instance 'church' is female and 'girl' is neutral. German is a lovely language. (Not.) :o)
