I'm just checking in here, and I don't dare to think that I might know more about this than you, but...

There was a WIRED article about the movie in this month's issue, and the director says that he changed the ending, removing the monster.

What's your take on this? I really hope I'm not the one breaking this to you, but as someone who just completed the series a few weeks ago, I can't imagine that this will go over well. However, unlike most geeky mouth-breathers that I've encountered on this subject, your ability to be evenhanded with fanboy shit is something refreshing to me, and I'm interested to see what you think of the movie after it comes out this weekend.

I mean, I'm looking forward to it, but I've also not got 15 years of worship behind my views.

I'm really reserving judgment 'til I see the movie. This post really isn't about my expectations for the movie so much as it is my knee-jerk reaction to things I like getting embraced by the kinds of fans who make me nuts.

Let it go.

The movie will only ever let you down, but its existence doesn't cheapen the book, which will remain awesome for years to come. If anything, let the mindless squee-happy mutants LOVE the shitty movie, then discover the comic, and the rest will take care of itself.

Watchmen is unfilmable, and nothing will convinve me otherwise.

Plus, you know, From Hell is Moore's best work.

And his best Film!

But seriously, it's not the movie itself that bugs me, it's the work being associated with the kind of godawful fan culture that normally surrounds stuff like Twilight. I can't get down with that.

I don't mind the fan culture. Yeah, things like Twilight are shitty, but from my view, and I guess my view is tainted by nerd-retail, rabid fans of anything are always looking for More. So rather than get all snotty and say "You're not One of Us," I'd rather say, "We live where the Good Shit is." (But not, maybe, Where the Grammar Is")

I don't think much of Harry Potter, but they read seven giant books, and when it was done, they came to me and said "What's Next?"

And that's when I get to infect them with Something Good. Phillip Pullman, say.

So when the idiot hordes come in and they loved Watchmen the movie and want Watchmen the comic and ask "What's Next?"

Well, that's why there's people like us, Alex.
