Things have, of course, been extremely busy and chaotic at Sectus Ground Zero, and I've not had sufficient time for an in-depth update. I still don't. But I'm SO FUCKING EXCITED right now, and I just have to update with a quick statement. No spoilers; just something general here ( Read more... )

Is the "this is what happened for the rest of their lives" epilogue real? That's all I care about, because if it is, what an unreal fuck you to the fans... Ms. Rowling really needs to be beaten to death if she did that. Other than that, I figured that the fandom and the fanfic would survive, no matter what she wrote. It has already grown beyond anything she could rein in, in spite of that idiotic epilogue's best effort.

From someone who has not read the series and most likely will not any time soon, so take this with a grain of salt.

I don't think providing a "what happened for the rest of their lives" epilogue is a bad thing. There are many people who read the books, but are not part of the community that writes fan fic. For them, having closure to the series is important. Many series I have read have that sort of epilogue. While it can pose problems for fan fic writers, I don't think if she did put it in it is a "ha ha ha" to the people that write fic, but rather a standard closing for all the fans who don't read fic.

I am not a writer of fan fiction, except in rare circumstances; I found the idea offensive as someone who enjoys endings that allow for some use of imagination. To lay out exactly what happens to all the remaining first-tier characters for the rest of their lives is to deprive the reader of the chance to come up with thier own ideas about what might become of them. It is not so much for the fanfic that I find this a cheap shot, but for the fans, who now have no opportunity to use their own imaginations to build lives for their favorite characters beyond the end of the series. That is not cool, no matter why she did it.

Hee! This is great to read. I'm in need of ideas (I missed the Snupin meeting because, still reading) but I'm off to read some links and things now and I hope that will help!

Honey, I just found out my friend Anne is out there at Sectus with you. I have no clue how likely you are to run into her or even what her lj name is but if you happen to find a tall, pretty lady with brown hair from Michigan named Anne please trade hugs for me!! :)

Heh, funny how that stuff works out, eh? ;) With 500+ people here, it's rather unlikely that I'll identify her, but you never know...

Nope, you never know. If I could get hold of her I'd tell her to go looking for the shorter cute one with the green hair but I don't think she's checking her email out there.

Hope you're having fun! :)
