Heh. I was cleaning out a cubby on my desk this morning and found a scrap of paper where I had jotted down my food intake for that day to keep track of it ( Read more... )

I think that I'd be starving on only 1600 calories a day. But then I've never actually counted how much I do eat, so who knows?

Anyway, congratulations!

Well, different bodies demand different amounts - but that IS a lot of food - an egg, a 14-oz smoothie, FOUR slices of thick-crust pizza, loaded with toppings, nearly two cups of grapes, a bell pepper stuffed with about one cup of rice and one cup of spicy tomatoes, beans and corn, - and a gallon of water.

I've learned that eating more is better - only it matters WHAT you eat. 1,400-1,600 calories of vegetables, fruits, beans, and whole grains is going to have you feeling fuller (and be better for you) than 2,000+ calories that are sugar and animal-protein heavy.

There have even been days I've gone BACK to snack on something to bring my calories up past 1,000 or so, because I've been SO full all day long from the high-fiber foods that I didn't realize that was all I had eaten!

I don't eat a whole lot of sugar, and I do try to eat a lot of veggies, but I'm still pretty sure that my average intake is a lot higher than that. Honestly, that list of food doesn't seem like a lot to me. If I didn't work out that day, maybe it would be sufficient, but I still feel as if I'd be hungry. Maybe I should try keeping track.

I've been the same weight for about ten years with occasional fluctuations. I always wonder whether I should be aiming for a weight that's about ten pounds less than my normal weight. I'm on the high end of "normal" by BMI standards, but then I have a lot of muscle and larger bones. Of course, eating better is always a good idea.

There is a fascinating article in the NY Times magazine talking about how the effective number of calories can be very different than the listed number of calories for different people.

Curves has a reputation of donating money to lots of Christian political organizations (not the ones that do charitable work.) LA Weight Loss isn't workout, it's food counseling.

Congrats on the 5 pounds gone! I've started going to the gym and eating in a more healty direction (not completely, but it's a good start from what I used to intake). The last time I weighed myself, I lost 6 pounds in two weeks, and I think now I'm down 10 pounds in total (although I really can't tell with the scale we have in the house).

I can't help with the gyms, though. I'm currently at Lady of America, and I enjoy it because it's close to my house and it's a women's only gym.
