Role-Play: Winter Ball

Alfred watched yet another server miss a woman looking for a drink. He couldn’t believe they had, especially considering the woman in need was wearing red. How could any decent server could miss that was beyond him. He looked around making sure Master Bruce, Rachel and anyone else wasn’t in sight before approaching a serve and tapping the young man ( Read more... )

Ah, but Rachel was everywhere.

And nowhere at all. She wasn't hiding from anything or anyone, not at all. She preferred the term meticulously cautious. There were certain people she wasn't ready to see, after all, and after making sure Matt had found a circle of lawyers and politicians to entertain himself with, she'd made a beeline to the powder room in hopes she'd find Pepper there.

On her way over she found the English dreamboat, just as she'd suspected, with a tray in hand.

Her tone was slightly accusing, if not fond. "Alfred Pennyworth."

Caught, Alfred stood up slightly straighter and turned, offering the tray to Rachel.

"A drink, dear?" He smiled charmingly, hoping to win her over with his usual politeness and yes, charm.

Rachel leveled him with a stern gaze, despite the fact the corners of her lips were twitching.

"You are a guest tonight, English."

"And a very helpful one."

He really didn't know how to be a party quest. He hadn't been one for years now. And the servers were doing their best, but one more helping hand wouldn't hurt.

Claire had been watching with amused interest as Mr. Pennyworth snatched a tray of champagne from a servant and then carried the tray to a woman dressed in red. Claire hadn't really talked to him very much, just one real conversation where they established they were both friends of Rachel's.

When he got close, she tilted her head to the side and smiled. "Aren't you a guest to the party?" She asked to catch his attention, still smiling as she stood there in her long white gown and her hair done. She was a little unsure about being at the party but there she was.

"Yes, but I thought I'd help out." He smiled at Miss Bennet, pleased to see her. "And you're looking very beautiful, Miss Bennet. Champagne?"

He held out the tray to her with a smile.

"No, thank you." She smiles, holding up a hand as she shakes her head, "I'm only eighteen and I know it's Tony's home but I don't wish to cause any problems."

Lowering her hand, she looks around before bringing her eyes back to him, "You're looking very sharp. Are you having fun, Mr. Pennyworth?"

"Of course." He held the tray back, impressed by her maturity. Most teenagers would have leapt at the chance to have a drink.

He nodded, "Yes, I enjoy parties like this. I've been to a great deal of them."

Pepper watched Alfred with an exasperated look. "You realize," she said, half teasing, half lecturing, "that you're supposed to be a guest tonight."

She exteneded a hand for the tray. "That's for other people to do, not you. If you'd like, I can get you to help clean later but right now, Alfred, please, relax?"

Caught fair and square, Alfred handed over the tray with his most charming smile. "I was just trying to lend a helping hand, Ms Potts."

"You look lovely."

She gave a little curtsy.

"I do try, and don't you look fantastic as well, Alfred. Although," she quickly added, "I don't think I've ever seen you not look sophisticated. I knew Bruce had to learn it from someone."

Speaking of which...

"Is his highness here yet?"
