[It's pretty obvious that the woman on the screen has had better days. She looks exhausted, and her face is tear-streaked; what can be seen of her clothing isn't in very good shape, either.]

This...certainly isn't what I expected. Wherever this is, it definitely isn't Cardiff, that much is certain.

Jack, Gwen, Ianto, are you out there somewhere? ( Read more... )

One of Jack's crew, are we now? [Oh, yes, he remembers sending you off to the Himalayas.]

[Oh, look, it's the dead former Prime Minister. That's...totally not weird at all.]

...hello, Mr Saxon.

[Totally not.]

Toshiko Sato, isn't it? [Smile!]

I didn't think you'd be familiar with the individual members of Torchwood, sir.

Tosh? Christ, it's good to see you. There's a clinic here, don't worry. [A beat.] This might sound weird, but what year is it for you?

[Tosh smiles when she sees Jack] Jack, not many questions are weird when you've been in Torchwood long enough. It's 2009 back home.

Oookay. Good. Another question. Have I run off unexpectedly yet?

[A little pause.] Press the yellow button on the side of your comm. It'll send me your coordinates; I'll come take you to the clinic, if you like.

[She gives him a suspicious look and presses the button] Yes. This is a lot of beating around the bush, Jack, it's been months since you returned.

Hey - it's going to be alright.

[Katara usually isn't the first to jump on reassuring people when they arrive in Adstring, because it feels like such a damn lie. But this woman has obviously seen better days.]

There are healers here.. they can fix your arm. Is someone coming to get you? [A pause, and she seems to realized how rapidly she's talking. Katara takes a breath, before finally blurting:] I'm Katara. Welcome to Adstringendum.

[Tosh gives her a wan smile, because, hey, she's trying, and she could really use the reassurance, to be honest.] One of my friends from home is coming for me, yes.

I'm Toshiko - Adstringendum, what sort of a name is that?

Good. It's -- going to be a lot to take in, but try not to get overwhelmed, alright?

[She takes a breath.]

'Adstringendum.' I think it's the word in some ancient language for 'really hard to say.'

I'm used to strange things - nothing quite this strange, but, well, I deal with a lot of weird stuff.

[that gets a strained chuckle] Makes sense, I suppose. Though I imagine that ending up in a strange city isn't usually one of those things that makes much sense.

[ A near emotionless woman is on the screen. What's the worst that can happen? ]

Please give me your coordinates so I can pick you up and bring you to the clinic.

There is a clinic, Lady, over which Lady Unohana presides. She is most skilled in medicine. I have not been myself, so I know not the coordinates to give them to you. But I hope someone else may be able to do so.

Thank you for your advice - one of my friends from home is here, as it turns out, and he's going to help me get there.

You are most welcome. And, most fortunate to have someone from home able to help you. Not everyone is as fortunate as we have been in that respect.
