Sitting here at Theio's waiting for Jimmy to get here from getting clean for job hunting. I talked with my Dad for awhile (he was in town due to a court thing, someone at Friend of the Court took one of his back child support checks and found a way to get the money), which was nice ( Read more... )

From what I remember of Contract Law from my LCC classes for business, if they evict you, you no longer have to pay rent for time you are not living there. Part of the contract. You pay them and follow their rules, they give you a place to live.

As they are no longer giving you a place to live, you no longer have to give them money once you are out. The only way they can get more money is if they take you to court for damages for failure to follow their rules. And then, well, have some pictures of the guy below you with his grill chained to the balcony, in violation of the lease agreement, a copy of said lease agreement, and a lawyer that understands the words "houseing discrimination" and watch DTN change their tune really quick.

Yes, I've dealth with these fuckers before. And they ended up giving me 2 months rent free and my security deposit back.

It depends a lot on the terms of the lease, the reasons for eviction, the paperwork filed, etc. etc. etc. The folks down at the MSULAW Rental Housing Clinic will know what's what. (Oh, and if you talk to a guy named Joe Tirrell, say Laurie says hi.)

That's my basic understanding as well. The only problem is local laws might muck things up. But I do have to take that picture of the grill...
