A/N: Written for the challenge at
sylelle_chall. This has been sitting on my computer for like the past few days. I'm trying a different style of writing hence why this one seems a bit...quirky. And if I'm not writing smut, I'm writing somewhat angsty stuff. Yeah, I don't get it either. And this is just barely under the 700 word limit, lol.
Thanks to
dragynflies for reading this over and convincing me it wasn't completely weird and out there.
I died when I was 4 years old.
My name is Robert Noah Bishop-Gray. Pretty fancy right? But I just go by Noah. My family's pretty special, you could say. My father used to be called Sylar and technically, he was a serial killer. But reuniting with my mother changed him. He went back to his real name, Gabriel, but to me, he was just Daddy. My mother's name is Elle and I firmly believe that there's no other mom out there as pretty as she was. But that's not why they're special or we're special. You see, we have powers...abilities.
My father could do almost anything. He could move things with his mind, heal himself if any accidents happened, and best of all, he made awesome waffles. My mom had the prettiest power. She could shoot bright blue electricity from her hands and I saw her do it on occasion to my father when she got sick of trying to argue with him. Of course Dad never stayed hurt, but he always came around to her side of a fight after that.
I was their miracle, or so they always told me. I guess that's because my dad had tried to kill my mom this one time but he came to his senses and didn't go through with it. A few months later, my mom discovered she was pregnant with me and the rest as they say, is history.
I started showing my power a few months before I died. It just came from nowhere really and my mom noticed it first. Whenever I was in a really good mood, the sky would be blue and cloudless and sunny. If I started getting upset or anything, it would be gray and potentially stormy. She told Dad and he was so genuinely excited, though there was a look on his face that seemed to betray his excitement. He picked me up and hugged me tight. It wasn't until recently, I finally realized what that look was. It was worry.
Few months later, my mom was across the country on an assignment for work. I was home with my dad when "Uncle" Peter came. He was different though, no scar on his face. He looked angry and scared at the same time. I wouldn't find out the reason why for another few minutes when these other people burst into our house.
Dad tried to protect me, but I got crushed by a table. I could see him cradling my body, horrified, and then I saw him glow red. Next thing I knew, Costa Verde was blowing up. But like I said, Dad could heal, so he emerged from the mess just fine.
I watched him teleport to Mom to tell her the news. But she already knew because she saw it on the news. She screamed, she cried, and she screamed some more. "How could you let that happen to my baby!"
I hated seeing both of them like that. I didn't blame them for what happened and I needed a way to show that to them. I closed my eyes and thought real hard. The gray skies over New York City where my parents were started raining and then the sun started peeking out. They both stared at it, a look of awe coming over their faces, and I knew they got my message.
It's been quite a few years since then, around 10 I'd say. My parents have rebuilt their lives and they have a new child, my sister. Her name is Isabella, she's 8, and she has a power too. She can see me on this ghostly plane that I travel on. We talk a lot and it helps me feel connected to my family. Sometimes I can't talk to any of them, so I just send a little roll of thunder through the skies to let them know I'm still around.
