This was a really enjoyable read - surprising given the content I know, but seriously. The Benny voice fit him so perfectly I could hear it in his drawl, and I could understand everything because it was written, yay!
My favorite little touch though? Dean calling Purgatory Narnia.
Yay! Benny!fic. There should be more of it, if you ask me. I don't know if you intended it (I'm sure you did!) but I thought this whole story had a nice slow southern drawl sort of pace to it, which fit perfectly with Benny's POV.
Oh boys. Sam's bare utilitarian room and bin full of bloody tissues, and Dean's fishbelly paleness and alcoholism - I do think the show seems to have got Dean over his alcohol abuse far too easily, there would be consequences in real life.
I loooove the South. It's not perfect, no, but there is a sort of leisure to the land; maybe it's the heat, I dunno. Northerners always seem to be in such a hurry, always driven to be doing ... something. Southerners seem to have a greater appreciation for the small things, like the prefect ice-cold glass of sweet tea. So I get it. :D
Show totally skimmed Dean's drinking issues, which is a bummer but feels deliberate. They touched on it but then let it drift. Maybe it's just too 'real' for the show. I feel like the Slice Girls episode put a cap on it by showing the unfortunate result of drinking and having an indiscriminate fling, which apparently taught Dean the lesson the writers wanted to, and that was that. Hrmm.
But YAY, Benny! I kinda love the guy. Wish there could be more of him. Who knows? ;)
I really love Benny, I do hope they bring him back somehow. It is kind of open to do so because surely there is no death in purgatory? And there's a whole other can of worms. Hee!
Also - the north south character divide seems to work almost everywhere - certainly in Europe the northern countries are much more driven and the southern ones more laid back.

Thanks for reading in your sickened state! (When you're feeling better, this won't seem nearly as enjoyable...heh...)
