Our kid does not need any large piece of plastic that does only one thing (e.g., the big plastic cake station that makes little cakes and cupcakes. See exhibit A.)
Word of advice from someone who is further down the "plays with clay like substances path": do NOT, I repeat do NOT, fall into the Moon Sand or Moon Dough vortex. Play-Doh is just fine, smells great and comes in great colors. Both the aforementioned clay-like substances are messy as hell and make for a grumpy parent clean up crew.
And you can buy the multi-pack of Play-Doh and let Judypants have at it. It will all eventually be puke brown anyway.
I happen to have some play-doh approximant that I made a few years ago out of flour, salt, cream of tartar, olive oil and food colouring (not cochineal) in five colours each about half a cup, and never used. I've been thinking of tossing it out, but maybe Judy might like it?
Making my own playdough with mom is one of my fondest childhood memories, I got to pick whatever color I felt like! We did it a lot! Also that's about when I learned that looks like food and made of food does not actually equal food, eeeeewww
