New Year's Eve? She certainly had been losing track of time if it was already that time. It meant several things, but the most important was the socialising and the dancing to be done.

As much as it pained her, she put on the dress she had been given-such a shame, to lack red for an event, but it must have been all part of the winter season. For what the mask lacked in detail, it made up for in how it fit over her glasses, and she showed up in her best high spirits.

Now, where would be best to sit for a while and observe the others...a seat near the dance floor would do nicely, and so she would take it up. At least until she finished this drink.

Caprica was familiar with dresses like this, the kind that clung to her body and emphasized her curves - though never quite this extravagant. The silky material shimmered in the low lights of the Pavilion, tiny faux-gemstones adorning the bodice twinkling like tiny stars, an effect she found unexpectedly charming.

She felt as if she already knew so few of the women here, but the masks - her own included - added another layer of anonymity. Glass of wine caught in her fingers, she glanced over the gathered crowd, eyes catching on a woman seated on the other side of the room, a red-haired woman in a dress of silver-gray. Familiarity nagged at her, but as soon as she attempted to recall the other woman, the feeling slipped away.

Intrigued, she approached slowly, the heels of her shoes clicking lightly on the ballroom floor.

"Enjoying yourself?"

She looked up at the woman in blue over the edge of her glass, setting it aside at the question. Striking, familiar in a sense akin to deja vu, yet mysterious. It was an interesting combination that immediately ensured her attention would be undivided.

"I suppose I am, though I've only just arrived. And yourself?"

Perhaps if she took the time to invoke conversation, why the other was familiar would become clear. Although it wasn't really important, the recognition. Neither was introducing herself, she felt, or even asking for a name.

New Year's Eve, huh? Kyoko was always used to celebrating the Lunar New Year more, but hey, a cause for celebration is a cause for celebration, and celebration is fun and a breaking out of the same old same old. Arriving in the Viridian Pavilion, she was clad in a red and black dress that was far different to what she was used to wearing and almost uncomfortable with the size of its skirts, but it was what she was given to wear and so she wore it. Obscuring her face was a mask that was luckily small enough to be comfortable and not add to the awkwardness of moving around in her dress.

Being Kyoko, she made a beeline for the snack tables.

Despite having already had plenty to eat and drink at Akiha's little party, Katina staggered her way out to the one the Queen put on as well for a bit. She was a little put off by having to wear a dress, but ended up settling on something sleek and red (and relatively comfortable). A simple black mask, lined with some gold beads and decorated with a single red feather, finished having her dressed well enough for this party's standards.

She, too, sidled up to the snacks in short order, seeming a little off balance as she leaned against it, and glanced over at Kyoko. "You look like you're about to take it all and run."

Kyoko's response was to laugh. Something about the comment was good-natured enough to not annoy her.

"Nah, there's plenty here for everyone so long as nothing goes to waste. Want something? I'd recommend this."

She held up a skewer of meatballs.

"I'm here to make sure it all gets eaten." Katina grinned - it seemed like Kyoko had the same idea. Sometimes the free food is the best thing about a party.

Taking the suggestion, she grabbed herself some meatballs, stuffing one in her mouth and chewing slowly.

Sette was going to the ball. But she was not happy about it.

"Leggo, leggo, leggo!" she insisted as she was bodily dragged, kicking and biting, into the Pavilion. Much to her shame, she'd been forced into the worst, most girliest dress she could imagine, and a matching frilly pink mask. In desperation, she let fly her last-resort plea for help: "Rape! Raaaaape! Somebody help me!"

Did she hate this outfit? She loathed it. But her kidnapper had been too stubborn to shake, and so here she was, deposited right in the middle of this fancy ball, looking like a frilly idiot.

"What're you looking' at?" she demanded of the closest passerby. She snapped her teeth threateningly at them.

[ooc: Excellen is dragging her to the ball, but any and all characters are welcome to witness the spectacle she's putting on.]

Amamiya quite liked her dress. It was fancy, to be sure, but not in an ostentatious way, and it didn't show off too much skin. It was attractive without relying on cleavage, or other things she didn't have. She had been a bit worried about wearing her mask with her glasses, but then she had discovered that the eyeholes actually contained prescription lenses in exactly her grade.

All the anonymity was exciting, and sort of freeing. Nobody would know what she did tonight. She could be a bit more daring than usual, and what was the worst that could happen?

Subaru's dark blue patterned gown was showing off just a bit of skin, but she's fine with exposing her toned arms and shoulders, and she liked how it made her appear more mature. Between that, the light makeup, and the dark mask she wore, she both looked and felt more her age.

Of course, that image all but crumbles the instant she opens her mouth. "Wow~ Everything and everyone looks so fancy! I wonder if I should have changed my hair a bit, too..." She muses aloud, not paying attention to who might be in earshot.

"It looks fine to me," Amamiya said from behind her. Her own blue hair ran straight down her back, with little care given for it other than a basic brushing.

Caught talking to herself, Subaru turns swiftly and runs the fingers of a hand self-consciously through her hair. "Aheh, does it?"

She then puts her hands on her hips, smiling at the other yong lady. "There's something to be said about keeping things simple. Looks like you agree!" If the simple hairstyle was anything to go by.

Jolyne ha been a bit skeptical about her dress when it had arrived. It didn't seem wearable in the slightest. But now that she was actually putting it on, she found that it was just fine; apparently the Queen has worked some of her magic on it to keep it altogether, in place, and make it possible for her to move around in it. She still made quite a sight, especially with her similarly-themed mask.

She hard made her way over to the food, and was helping herself to a plateful of food and a big glad of wine.

Dancing, as great as it felt, got tiring eventually, and Santana had to take a break for some food. Eating anything that wasn't on her coach's strict list of approved food was always difficult (unless it was Breadstix), but it was even harder with this technicolor nightmare of a woman in front of her.

"You look like a gay toddler puked on you."

Jolyne was aware that she looked ridiculous. But with these masks anonymizing everyone, she gave no fucks. She was A-OK with looking ridiculous under these conditions.

"Sorry, girl," she said. "I didn't pick it, I just rock it!"

She spun around. It made her dress look vaguely like a swarm of butterflies taking flight.

"...maybe," she said, giving Jolyne a look over. "You're supposed to dance before you eat."
