"Sure. It's a ...sacher torte. That's how it's called. Unless you don't like it?"

... I don't even know what that means.

She blinks...

But totally accepts this as genuine.

"Really...? Sure!"

"Glad you want to try it!"

Tenshi handed over a slice of slightly oversugared AND oversalted cake, and looked pretty enthusiastic.

"How is it?"

Xion took the slice, looking it over curiously. Having never eaten cake before, she didn't really know what to expect. So the put a piece in her mouth...

"It's--"

She'd be reminded of her favorite sea-salt ice cream if the taste weren't so...overwhelming. She swallows with difficulty.

"...strange."

No one's ever really taught her about white lies, either.

"...Strange?" Tenshi asked, being confused. "What do you mean? Good-strange, right? Like strange-I-never-tasted-something-so-heavenly, right?"

[France doesn't say a word, instead viewing the cake critically. She gently eases a slice out of the box, picks off a small chunk and puts it in her mouth. Then she pauses, wincing slightly at the taste, but she still swallows it.]

It's terrible. Did you make it in the dark? Did you follow a recipe?

Wha...! What is terrible about it? I mean, I didn't have any rum and I guess I shouldn't have let it bake so long but otherwise I followed the recipe, I think. A pinch of salt means like half a small spoon, right?

It's burned and it tastes like you emptied an entire bottle of vinegar into the mix. A pinch of salt is the amount of salt you can hold between your forefinger and your thumb- or one eighth of a teaspoon, at most. [Sorry, Tenshi, cooking is her life.] Ah, but I have had far, far worse... But that is no excuse!

Don't be sorry. ^^ peachhat February 22 2011, 15:20:11 UTC
I..I could cook really good if I tried really hard, you know!

...But why do you add vinegar then if you don't taste it? I thought the recipe was wrong, so I just added some more, I mean, if it's an indrigent you better notice it, right?

I am feeling very scared right now.

Why? it's a peace offering... you always complained I wasn't nice, right?

shanghaiworld February 22 2011, 07:53:35 UTC
The fact you're doing so now is why I am.

[Surprised to be approached with cake, but she peers into the box curiously.]

Ah, well... What sort of cake is it?

Reply

peachhat February 22 2011, 10:36:50 UTC
Err, it's called 'Red velvet cake'. Pretty normal cake, really.

That sounds lovely. [She smiles and takes a piece.] Thank you.
