Is there a food that you used to dislike as a kid but like now?

Mine is grapefruit. Nowadays sometimes I crave it.

Do you remember if it was the taste of the avocado that you didn't like? Or the texture?

I hated canned spinach and still hate it because of its texture. But I like fresh spinach like crazy.

I think we grew up on canned veggies because my Dad was in the military and it's the cheapest and easiest way to transport veggies.

Speaking of veggies, thank you for turning me onto Veggie Tales!

onions, yoghurt, quite a few things.

My mother worked for a large hospital kitchen, and spent all day making food, so a lot of the time when she got home, she didn't want to have to argue the toss with a picky eater, so we ended up with chips fries and...

Now, I'll eat most anything, barring liver, kidney or other offal.

I'll try anything once...

LB has the same attitude, she'll give anything a go. Watching her eat an olive for the first time was hilarious - you could almost see the message going through "not... sure... if... I... really... like... this"

Then she tried again the next day, and now no olive is safe!

My tolerance for organ meat has grown quite a bit, too. I've always loved chopped liver, which is a traditional Jewish appetizer served on crackers. (Occasionally, it's a sandwich, but that implies more chopped liver than is ever likely to be around the day after the family gathering where it was served as an appetizer.) But I have more of an appreciation for liver and onions than I ever did as a kid, and enjoy steak and kidney pie more than most Americans.

I think the big one is salmon, which I'll still rarely choose to order, but can appreciate in some preparations. Lox (smoked salmon) and canned salmon were always fine, but I guess most preparations of fresh salmon were never my thing. Tragic.

I've always liked the way my Uncle Sam prepared liver for a special occasion. I'm not sure how he did it exactly but it was with onions. Other than that I haven't cared for organ meat.

I find that most cooks/chefs will let anyone else cook when they have to eat in their time off. But there always seems to be at least one dish that they have to cook exactly their way.

I don't agree with making fussy eaters eat something they don't like. On the other hand, I'm not a short order cook and if the kids don't want to eat what I've prepared they have to make their own meal.
