OMG! Of course I feel all laid back. My first two days subbing as a para-educator was in the lowest functioning high school class in the district. There were three potentially violent students. One of them my charge who was likely to have psychotic episodes and had given the regular instructor a permanent injury. She had to wear a helmet and was sporting a black eye and a split lip the day I came in. Everything else seems much easier now. :)
We ask second graders who tell if they want to get someone in trouble or if they are trying to help. If they say 'trying to get someone in trouble' we tell them to mind their own business (but nicer). It was ameasure introduced by the counselor and everyone in my son's school is using it now.
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus that's not terrifying in the extreme. o.O
But OOOO I like that verbal mindfuckery! So much of teaching seems to be training them to respond to exact phrases, which most teachers forget to TELL YOU ABOUT. But I like that. It makes them consider their own actions. *rubs hands together muahaha*
(No actually I'm really glad my first kid to the office was like this, and not because some kid threw a chair at someone's head.)
The scary thing is YES!!! IT IS!! I don't understand it either, and I explain to the kids that I don't like using Step because it treats them like children (thus inspiring them to preemptively cease bad behavior so as not to be perceived as childish! ~psychology~) but honest to god, some kids just need a moment to calm down and remember who's boss, and Step provides that. *HANDS*
I am so exciiiiiteeeeed for Disneyland! Every day of subbing means more money for fun times, which is a great motivational/mood booster thing I didn't even know I needed. DISNEYLAND!!

kidelt school is big on personal responsibility. :) And yeah they tell subs nothing - nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've seen that twice now - much scarier coming from a high schooler, but even with a second grader it was kind of scary - it's a chair - it hurts!
and yay! Disneyland - that's about 6 hours from me. :)
