Today I had to send a kid to the office for the first time...

Just. Honestly. This girl came in late, didn't show me her pass, didn't even let me know she was there, and then in the middle of the lesson demanded that I let her go to the office.

Me: No
Her: But I need to tell them that somebody called me a slut!
Me: Not right now, okay? We're in the middle of class, you can wait until passing time or after school.
Her: No I can't! I've been waiting!
Me: You can. I believe in you.
Her: I want to go to the office!
Me: Do you want to choose Step One*?
Her: I WANT TO GO TO THE OFFICE
Me: Choose Step One.
Her: Somebody called me a slut! I want to go to the office!
Me: Okay, your options right now are choosing Step One, or going to the office on Step Three to have a meeting with your parents.
Her: I want to go to the office to tell them I was called a slut!
Me: That's not one of the options. And you're STILL not on Step One.
Her: I WANT TO GO TO THE OFFICE
Me: FINE, YOU ARE GOING TO THE OFFICE ON STEP THREE WHICH INVOLVES MEETING WITH YOUR PARENTS
Her: FINE! AND I WILL ALSO TELL THEM WHO CALLED ME A SLUT!

*step program: if you don't have this, it's time out but complicated. In "choosing step one" she should have taken her chair and moved away to face the wall until I came and talked to her.

soooooooooo. yeah, that happened. Just to be clear, the allcaps are for stress, not for shouting (on my part). And it went on a lot longer than this, with me giving her all sorts of outs and her not taking a single one. And as a side-note, she didn't seem upset about being called a slut; she seemed fixated on getting whoever called her that in trouble.

ugh i feel like the social justice bloggers are looming on this one. How do you tell an eleven year old to fight against slut-shaming by reappropriating the word, especially when all she cares about is getting her way? Hmmmm.

But then as part of my chiropractic treatment I got an hour-long full-body massage completely paid for by the insurance company of the teenager who rear-ended by van, so ~KARMA~

Also a teacher I've subbed for twice now TRACKED ME DOWN IN THE SCHOOL to offer me a bajillion more days as his sub (okay a week and a half) and some of his kids are squirrelly but I actually like them so I think it'll work out! *knock on wood* Now if he'd only make it official on the freaking website...

...when did i become the person who only blogs about work OH DID I EVEN TELL YOU GUYS I'M GOING TO DISNEYLAND IN OCTOBER?? I'M GOING TO DISNEYLAND!! :DDD

do i really need a real life tag?, disneyland!!!, jobbing
