Things are better today, not that anything has changed to make it better, just in that way that things get better when they aren't quite so in your face. So thank you, all you lovely darlings, for putting up with my emo frustration--your offers of hugs and common sense really helped, even though I felt (still feel) kind of dickish for laying all ( Read more... )

You weren't acting dickish at all, darling. It's a stressful situation, and if you can't vent some of that stress on your own journal, then what is the world coming to?

Also, I think some resorts have safes available for guests to lock up precious items. Could you contact the resort and see if they have safes in their rooms? If they do, you might not have to choose between the Internet and your laptop's security. :D

augh *CLINGS* you keep saying all these sweet things!

They do have safes (saaaaves? ugh sleep deprived sorry) but I guess I've always thought of a safe as something for little expensive items, like passports and cameras and demon-killing Colt revolvers but maybe I could check with them to see if it would fit a laptop--good thinking.

Collapsing now, *smoosh*

re: laptop in Mexico. I've been to Cancun a few times, and all the resorts I've stayed in have had in-room safes. I always bring my laptop with me, and haven't had anything taken or felt like I would. If it really worries you (or if your laptop doesn't fit in the safe, like my sister's didn't), you can be all crafty. Bring a zipper binder big enough to fit it inside, and just stash it in there with some papers sticking out the flap and put it in your suitcase. It looks like work, so it has less of a chance of getting lifted. :)

Because going laptop-less? SUCKS.

Ohhhhhhh NICE! I can be crafty. *straps on crafty goggles* Yeah, the more I think about it the more the thought of going without my laptop makes me break out in hives. o.o

Wow, I feel like such a first world white bread skeev. The "false safes" are just--ridiculous, seriously, are you James Bond? No. If it's that valuable and small enough to stuff inside a fake hair curler, carry it on you in your bra.

Thanks for the links, bb <3
