Danny Recs, Part 1

Sep 16, 2012 21:09

So I've been noodling around with this for awhile and I think I have enough collected now. Here is part one of my massive Danny-centric recs list. This is all Jackson/Danny stuff. Part two will be other Danny pairings and gen. Enjoy!

Quick to Listen and Slow to Speak by lielabell
"I can't believe you never told me," Danny says, marching up to Jackson in the school parking lot to jab a finger in his chest.
Read it because... Okay, fine, I'm heavily biased on this one, as it written just for meeeee. But read it because it's hilarious and delightful and there are a ton of jokes about Danny keeping Jackson in a terrarium.
Warnings: miscommunication/embarrassment

Bound to Happen by Fossarian
Danny meets Jackson out late and something finally gives.
Read it because... It's a lot less happy and cheerful than most of this list (what can I say, my taste runs towards cuddles and happy endings), but the slightly harder tone to it works very well, considering how screwed up Jackson is and how much Danny has to go through, dealing with him.

Don't Let the Sun Blast Your Shadow by Nokomis
It's not like Danny doesn't understand that Beacon Hills is, well, a beacon for weird-ass shit. (Or, the one where Jackson 'rescues' Danny from a lacrosse field full of fairies.)
Read it because... It's delightful. It's essentially friendship-centric gen (with a very minor shippy overtone), and mostly it's just funny. Jackson is not actually very good at coming to the rescue, and Danny is the greatest friend ever. (Disclosure: this one was also written from a prompt I gave. Whaaat? I am determined to increase the amount of Danny/Jackson in the universe however possible.)

That's What Friends are For by rivers_bend
Danny likes boys. Jackson is a boy. Surely that means Jackson's Danny's type.
Read it because... It's actually really quiet innocent, considering it involves boys getting off in the shower together. The boys are younger here, and Jackson is straight, but their mutual curiosity feels natural, and the young voice feels real.
Warnings: eighth-grade boys experimenting.

not the sentimental type by rollingwithimpunity
It's not a respectful thing to think, but Danny's not exactly surprised when Jackson dies from doing something stupid (sad yes, surprised no). The coming back to life is unexpected.
Read it because... of FEELINGS. Danny struggles to cope with Jackson's death, and then sudden reappearance. And Jackson's different (but not), and their friendship and Danny's understated crush are both wonderful.

the way we look like animals by listedheart
"Seriously, man." This is what Jackson needs - a moment of distraction, taking his mind off of himself for once. "What is your type?"
Read it because... it is SMOKING HOT. Jackson POV as he tries to relax for a night between blackouts, and the best way to do that is hanging out with his best friend. Hanging out leads to more, and, well, SMOKING HOT.

Code green by Desdemon
Fake boyfriends at the club.
Read it because... ;jkasdflkjasdfjlafd; FAKE BOYFRIENDS IS THE BEST TROPE. Jackson POV again, and his obvious longing for Danny seriously KILLS ME.

turning tables by preromantics
Jackson is not a very good wingman, but Danny already knew that. Actually, Danny has no idea why he's not stopping this trainwreck of a night from happening already.
Read it because... who doesn't want to read good fic of Jackson hating everyone Danny's interested in? With eventual smooches and Jackson being vulnerable?

break you open (what you need) by chatona
It scares Danny sometimes, how much Jackson seems to need this: How he needs to be used and owned.
Read it because... Jackson is so broken and needs so much, and Danny loves him enough to give it to him. This is also a look back at their friendship, the moments that define them and make it clear why Danny is willing to give so much to Jackson.
Warnings: D/s dynamic

Just a Game by Hermia
Jackson and Danny play an "innocent" game of gay chicken. The former still believes the latter wants him; Danny insists they play the game to prove a point.
Read it because... the unresolved sexual tension will KILL you. Thankfully, it's the first in a series, so there are two more fics that follow this one, which are also hot and great.
