Despite having better cellphones than the US, and toilets with as many functions as a typical American cellphone, Japan is a cash society. Checks have never caught on here, and many places do not accept credit cards. So when I need to pay rent, I go to the landlord's bank and send money to my landlord's account. Japanese ATM's also have many ( Read more... )

What bank is your account with? I have an account with the post office bank, and taking money out is SO EASY. I give it my bank book, type in my PIN, and it gives me money. It takes about 20 seconds total.

Depositing money, however...that can be complicated.

You pay your bills at the post office? I always go to the convenience store...(my students are always shocked when I tell them in America we don't pay bills at convenience stores).

My bank account is with the post office, so getting money from the ATM is no problem. But the landlord uses Achi Bank (maybe) so I have to use their ATM to pay rent.

I haven't tried paying at the convenience store, yet. If I go to the convenience store, I will want to buy food. :) I don't want to buy anything at the post office.

Hey, what's a fun way to practice "What school do you go to?" I have to think of a new way for parent day tomorrow and I've been stuck.

Hey, what's a fun way to practice "What school do you go to?"

I'm assuming this is for kids? If they all go to different schools, have them go around asking each other "What school do you go to?" (writing down the answers if you don't think they'll remember), then ask them questions..."What school does Mayu go to?" "What school does Kenji go to?" If they get the answer right, give them a point, and whoever has the most points "wins".

If they all go to the same school, it's trickier, but you could try the same method, just give them each a slip of paper with the name of a school, then they have to answer with that school.

That's the best I can come up with, sorry. I've been on vacation for two weeks, and my teacher brain is out of practice.

Hmmm, that might be difficult for kindergarten/first grade. But maybe. I hate when parents come to observe - everything has to be fun, and they have to do all the activities well. We have a new boy who has only been in class about a month, so it is doubly difficult.

I hope you had a good vacation.
