The nationals are just a month away, and Nate knows he's not going to do well but that's OK because this will be his first competition after a long injury and a coach switch. The competition is really between three people: Brad Colbert, Ray Person and Tony Espera. Brad was the master technician, the one who could whip quadruples lutzes out on the ice, which was crazy because the guy was huge. A lot of people found his routines sterile though; Nate has always liked them though. Brad just doesn't have any use for frills, and makes minimalism work for him ( ... )

Espera's next, and the hunger that Nate expected to show up makes itself known. Espera is skating a brand new routine about oppression, and what should have been heavy-handed and awkward works like magic instead. He lands a quad and skates like a dream. He finishes in a daze, and the audience takes a minute to absorb it all before giving him a standing ovation ( ... )

They clean each other up and get into their cars. Brad didn't want to attend any of the parties afterward, which Nate had no problem with. They meet at Nate's apartment and put on a movie. Nate's wearing Brad's medal as he lies back on the couch with his head on Brad's lap ( ... )

The whole thing was hot and cracky, but my brain is stuck on NATE WITH HIS HEAD IN BRAD'S LAP. SO ADORABLE.

I don't even care much about Ice Skating, but this is great! I especially liked picturing Poke as a Ice Skater, skating about the oppression of his people! Hee! And the ending was adorable - funny and sexy and sweet!

i bloody love cracky AUs! this was awesome.

Person's a good technician but much better artistically -- the second coming of Johnny Weir and just as much of a shit disturber, but straight this time.

LOL! yess. my love of weir plus my love of ray almost caused this sentence to kill me before i even got to brad/nate being sexy together :D

Ok, so I'm a fairly serious figure skater, soooo I was pretty hesitant about how this fic would appeal to me because I couldn't even fathom these two worlds colliding.
