Nate Fick is finally in the home stretch of his first year at Harvard. When he's not reviewing his notes or revising his essays, he's bemoaning the fact that they don't make Ripped Fuel anymore and cursing his decision to go to grad school. He'd never imagined that life in a war zone would be preferable to a sojourn in the Ivy League. The fact is, Nate misses the support and camaraderie of his men and he feels lonely among his hyper competitive and sometimes paranoid classmates. Even though no one's shooting at you, it doesn't mean that they're not all gunning for you.
Jesus. I'm must be tired, Nate thinks, as he looks up from his books to rub his eyes and stretch. The reading room has emptied out since he arrived at opening time this morning. Is it time for lunch? Dinner?, Nate muses as he twists in his seat, panning the room as he attempts to crack his back. He's all the way turned around, looking back at the library's entrance, when he sees her.

Nate Fick is a brave man, but he's feeling something shamefully close to panic as he realizes that she is headed right for him. Concurrent with that realization is a nagging sense that he should know this girl. If she's not a classmate, then is she a friend of his sisters', someone from Dartmouth, or even high school, or possibly, a fellow Marine? No. Is she an actress?
