I don't know...maybe it isn't Lucifer himself, but a hologrammatic image with with psychic overlay?! I'm rather stumped myself. There were some awesome moments, but yes...the handwavey of it all was head-tilty.

I'm not sure I can explain the Cage mess any better. I didn't get it until I saw other people explaining it, and wasn't even paying attention to that because Show was so ugh. I didn't like this one. But, from what I think I understand, the new cage is not the Cage Cage, but a representation of the Cage and (some of) its contents - a bit like virtual reality Skyping, I guess? I am not at all sure how Sam got in there, if this is the case, because you were correct, the writing blew goats. It seems Sam isn't in the Cage Cage, but merely existing in the virtual reality limbo Skype cage, just like that terrible movie Virtuosity with Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington.

If it was just a hologram/skype Lucifer, then why bother with all the warding and fire protection in the first place??? Argh I fucking hate the sloppy writing!

Ouija-hologram-Skyping! The original symbols were the numbers to dial, and the protections/ritual was needed to keep them from charging you your soul for the call, like when in every Ouija scene ever the dumb kids get possessed or murdered because they didn't take precautions. Sam is dumb-almost-possessed kid because you don't accept collect calls from Hell!

I agree with all of your point but one. I just can't enjoy Emily Swallow in any shape or form. Maybe its a hold over from when she was The Mentalist as rather superfluous character that the fandom generally hated. A couple of her lines were okay but overall she didn't impress in the least. The only chemistry I saw was because Jensen can have chemistry with a rock (heck, week after week he has chemistry with a car ( ... )

It looked like the Ruby knife hilt to me. I guess we'll have to see if it pops up again or not. Of course, they could always retcon that, too... ::sighs::

There were soooo many things about this ep that had me scratching my head, and you pretty much hit all of them. The biggest one was how friggin' easy it was for Rowena to get Lucy 'out' and why couldn't Lilith or Azazel or any of the others have done the same thing. (Wasn't Adam supposed to still be in the cage still too?). Plus, on the Sam not-being-too-bright front, I had to blink at him merrily going to the depths of Hell to talk to Lucifer without waiting for Dean and only having the spectacularly untrustworthy Crowley and Rowena as backup. o.O

The whole thing was such a hot mess. And now we have to wait several weeks to get answers, most of which will only make the mess messier :-P

At least we get to see Crowley in footie pajamas :)
