PJS: Please help me make the right decision!

So PJS: On Saturday, after having brunch with johnboy91719, I went to the MadCat store to get Ginger die Wunderkatze a new water bowl. Well, I forgot that MadCat has an adoption fair every Saturday, and wouldn't you know, there was a sweet kitty there that grabbed my heart and wouldn't let go. His name is Otis, and he's a DOLL. And ever since then, I've been ( Read more... )

Do they have any way that you could introduce the cats to each other to see how they react/ interact? I would guess that you are probably right that he wouldn't affect your asthma much if you keep up with them. So the biggest things would be the money and if they would get along. I don't have a good concept of how expensive a cat is to take care of, but I think you could find other ways to save money to offset at least some of the added cost if you needed to. So I think the biggest unknown is if Ginger would get along with him - it's the one thing you can't really control.

He is pretty adorable. He reminds me of a cat we used to have in our neighborhood that I loved.

If we do coffee this weekend, we should go to Mad Cat afterward and see if he's there again. I'd love to see what you think of him up close. So take your allergy meds, LOL!

Hey you! And aww, it's good to know that most of my big fears (shedding, expenses) are not anything to fear at all. Still worried about what Ginger will think of him. May have to just get him and find out, y'know? Course it would break my heart if I'd have to return him :(

Well, his name is Otis. One cannot resist such a name.

I say go for it. It's like having a second child - you may worry whether the first born will like him or not but he's there already. Let Ginger know you still love her the same and dust off more often. Follow your heart.

The problem with my heart is that it is too big, and it gets me hurt on occasion. And yet, it's always best to go with your heart, right?

::sighs:: Still so torn.

I wish I could help, considering we have three cats and two dogs. (For the record, I didn't want a third... and apparently she doesn't want me.) Here's my experience when we got Lulu, the second cat. Lilly didn't like Lulu at all. She hissed at her and hid for days, until she realized that the new cat wasn't leaving. Ever since then when they enter the same room they both stare at each other and if Lulu gets too close to Lilly, she gets smacked on her head. Sooo, Lilly doesn't like her, but at least she hasn't really attacked Lulu and do real harm. But there will be times when they tolerate each other. My brother even caught them snuggling once!... It never happened again, but we have photographic evidence that it did. ;)

Also, we were told one way to introduce a new cat is to rub a sock on the new one and let the old one smell it... I don't think it worked for us. But maybe it could work for you... somehow.... I don't know. Just an idea. *shrugs*

A sock, eh? I could try that. I have a feeling that if I decide to go for it, I'm just going to have to give Otis a trial run and see how he and Ginger get along, if at all. But I'd hate to have to take him back :( I think that's why I hesitate to up and adopt him just like that.

Yeah, I don't know. I don't remember it working for us, but I figured I would pass on advice that I heard, because all cats are different. is there any way you could bring Ginger to the store? Or would that be a bad idea?

If Otis is as laid back as you said he is, he MIGHT be the kind of cat that just sleeps all day. So it's possible that Ginger might be okay with that. Then again, I don't know your cat that well.
