Um, so remember when my comm design professor gave me AnimeFest as my major client for the semester? I need to have three concepts about how to present it by Monday. And even though I'm there every year, I am pretty much glued to my table the whole time, so I would like those of you who go to tell me a little bit about what goes on outside the ( Read more... )

Give me a day or so and I can write you something pretty detailed up if you like. I help run a ton of events, plus I have been a guest a few. I know a lot that goes outside of the artist alley ^_~

The latest I will have something for you is Sunday. Is that too late?

Let's start about the differences. A-kon is the third largest con in the country. For whatever reason, Texas seems to have a high concentration of anime fans. I suppose it can e blamed on Cartoon Network an the like, but still, it's a higher concentration then expected in my opinion. So when the largest con in drving distance comes around, it seems everyone and their mother go. Yet, the odd things, the con attracts fans that are interested in just gaming or other aspects of Japanese culture who may or may not be into anime at all. It's the only con I have been to that attracts that much diverse of attendees. Because of this, A-Kon can be like a double-edged sword. The hotel they use hasn't changed in years, yet the number of attendees keep growing. There simply isn't any breathing room for anyone ( ... )

So let's turn over to AnimeFest. The con is a fraction in size that A-kon is. It doesn't attract as wide a range as A-Kon does. And yet, you see very little complaints about the con as whole in comparison to A-Kon. A-Kon has attendees leave feeling they wated $50 or more on a weekend that was spent in their hotel room. Where as Animefest has cheaper tickets, cheaper hotel, and people hang out at all hours of the day and night. The amount of attendees is nice because there IS breathing room ( ... )
