Seasonal Fic Fests: Need Feedback from All Artists, Authors, and Readers

Aug 03, 2013 14:29

From the brilliant but  wickedly evil minds of hellbells101, mswriter07, and wolfspirit07, we've come up with a schedule of seasonal fests that would stretch across the three major TFaF communities: quarter_mile, quartermile_km, and dt_garage. For those of you who haven't been over to quartermile_km, I've taken over the maintainer duties at that community so it should be coming live in time for the 2013 Kink Meme so be on the ( Read more... )

I feel bad to be the first one replying as I am one of the newbie but I don't know when I can go back online with my schedule so I'll comment now :)

I like option schedule one but I don't see why it cannot have the Theme and Kink mixed into one longer (2 months like April/May or even 3 months if we there is a possibility of a mini big bang to cut the year nicely) and then keep December for the Awards?

I like the fact there is a minimum of 1000 words for any fic but why is there a maximum again?

No max... that was just a range that we could put the min at (1,000-2,000 words).

As far as how the fests would be arranged and whatnot, I'm new to fest stuff myself- this years Cannonball Run was my first ever- so that I'm gonna have to differ to Spy... who would know far better than I about how many months each type of fest should take to give enough time in for prompting and writing.

I have run some challenges in the supernatural verse and I am in round ten of wicked_awards but never done a big bang or anything in fast and furious so I am sure whatever you all come up with will be awesome, I just wait for some challenges so I get to write a bit more in this fandom and read a lot more as you all add your stories, lol.

Actually, I was thinking of having a knockout fest for the TFAF. Each author writes a fic based on a prompt/theme. Readers choose the top 8 or whatever and on and on until there's only one fic left. Just a thought. Or we can have awards running concurrently for the end of this year or start it around January.

Pfft, I'm thinking I need to form a Brian/Mia triad of my own, minus the visiting. Which fest would you prefer?

Depending on schedules either Secret Santa or even the Big Bang if you can give me some ins and outs of how to mod it. wolfspirit07 wants the kinks so I'll let her go on that one lol.

Hmmm... personally I'd love to take part in the fests, but I do have a bit of a problem. Well, as for now I'm still a recent high school graduate, on a gap year and living on my parents' tab. And I have a feeling that it would stay like this until summer 2014 at least, but knowing me and my super laziness, it moght be possible that I might want to extend the gap "year" until summer 2015. Anyway, my parents don't want me spending the whole days at home writing new fics etc, not that they even know I'm a fic writer ( ... )

I can't comment for the owners/maintainers but from the experience I've had in the last 5 years your biggest problem will be the Big Bang. As someone with almost no time ever I was afraid of entering challenges until I broke it down into smaller bites/pieces...

If every other fest has a minimum of 1000 words, it is about 2 1/2 pages printed, you are talking about 4 hours of actual writing time once you have the idea in your head for that one month fest. The chances of you finding 2-3 small periods of time to write a small fic for it are fairly good if you are inspired by one of the prompt or theme.

In any case it's one fest at the time, you don't have to commit to all four just to the next one, the one ahead. One step at the time... That's how I wrote about 80% of my fics: one challenge at a time :)

Hope you don't mind my replying ♥
