I'll bet a fiddle of gold against your soul 'cause I think I'm better than you

Saw Thor: The Dark World on Thursday, and I enjoyed it a great deal. I had a few quibbles, but it was nothing I didn't see coming.

[rosin up your bow]So, basically, I am in exactly the position I didn't really want to be in - where I really enjoyed Loki in this movie and where they took him, but I hated what they did with the ladies. I want to say I loved it, and Read more... )

Yeah that's actually....completely how I felt? There were parts that I loved and then parts where I was like, "you could've done better here and I know you know it." I don't know. I really enjoyed it as a whole but the ladies could have been dealt with much better.

Same. I'm actually really annoyed, because if it literally was not for how the lady characters were treated, it would probably be one of my favorite movies ever.

I was thinking about it, and I sort of had the same reaction to The Dark World that a lot of my friends had to Pacific Rim, which pretty much amounts to, "We could have had it all".

And it wouldn't even be that bad if it wasn't being compared to the first movie, which was largely INCREDIBLY female friendly.

Any of it. What did Jane literally being limp and immobile add to the story? Again, nothing.

Like, why was it so hard for Alan Taylor/The Writers t think of the female characters as nuclear characters with the same kind of pull and agency Thor and Loki have? Why was it so fucking hard for them to get that?

First of all, I love the lyrics that you choose for your subject heading. They're perfect.

That being said, the possibility of Loki murdering Odin would be a really wonderful thing. I don't necessarily like that that sets him up as the inarguable villain of the third movie, but I really hate Odin and if Loki killed him, there really isn't a huge loss there IMO.

So intriguing! And I like that Thor 2 sets it up so that it's totally logical that Loki would be not be in Avengers 2 AND steps up a really high-stakes conflict between him and Thor.
