“Tatsuya got a new boyfriend”, Nakamaru casually mentioned as he met up with Kame for lunch one day.
“Oh”, Kame replied, eyebrows quirked in curiosity and his voice rose with amusement, “who is it this time?”
“He won’t say”, Nakamaru answered, biting into his burger, “all he does is brag about how tall and handsome his man is”.
Kame laughed, “sounds like we’ve got a teenage girl in love”.
Nakamaru laughed too, “he might as well be one. Even as his roommate, he spends more time talking on the phone to that guy than he does with me”.
Kame chuckled, munching on seasoned fries before he said, “I want to see this guy who has our Tatchan meowing”.
And with that said, the topic came up again a few days later.
The three of them were out having lunch when Kame suddenly asked, “so when can we meet your boyfriend?”
Tatsuya instantly froze, a clump of rice stuck to the corner of his mouth while rice bits fell on his polo shirt. Kame laughed and Nakamaru stifled back giggles.
“How do you know about that?” he asked
Kame smirked, secretly winking at Nakamaru, “I saw you holding hands with a tall and good looking fellow”.
Tatsuya’s face gradually changed from one of surprise to one of irritation gritting between his teeth, “I’m going to kill Junno. I told him that we shouldn’t hold hands in public”.
“So his name is Junno, ah?”, Kame was quick to catch.
Tatsuya gasped, too much information that he was unwilling to give because Nakamaru and Kame were the worst best friends anyone could have. They would pry in his business and tease him and at times he felt they acted like his---
“Well it’s too late to hide it now”, Nakamaru leered.
And so having decided it best to surrender, Tatsuya admitted, “Yes, his name is Junno", and just as quickly as he started to spill he regretted it having caught the burning curiosity in his friends’ eyes.
“So where did you meet?” Kame asked, his mannerism copying that of a papa talking to a son.
“At the park while I was out jogging”.
Nakamaru grinned, “killing two birds with one stone - getting fit while picking up men”.
Tatsuya flushed. His skin hued pink and he was unable to look his friends in their eyes, half hiding his face with the back of his hands the way he did whenever he was embarrassed.
“It’s not like that”, he tried to correct them, “I was also walking the dogs when one ran away and by the time I found him, he was already comfortable with Junno… which surprised me since that dog allowed no one but me to touch him”.
Kame grinned and said, “so romantic…”, teasing as he drawled, “was there a sunset too?”
Nakamaru laughed at Kame’s jest and at just how restless Tatsuya seemed, fridgeting like a teenager telling his parents about his first girlfriend.
Just then, Tatsuya’s phone rang and Kame and Nakamaru were amazed at the sudden transformation of Tatsuya’s face. How his lips were spread into a smile as he spoke, and how his eyes glinted in a sort of glee. His mannerism too, light and fluffy that even the air he breathed was pink. Nakamaru and Kame gasped. Surprised yet felt easy when Tatsuya laughed so haughtily, throwing his head back with teeth, gum and all showing that if days had stars, they would probably be Tatsuya with the way he sparkled.
“I’ve to go now”, Tatsuya suddenly told them after ending the call.
Recovering from their trance, Kame asked, “And where are you off to?”
Before replying, Tatsuya grabbed his bag and with a bounce in his step and a too pretty smile he said, “My man is waiting”.
