I'm starting to think it's some kind of reflex with Cumberbatch: OMG MY FEETS ARE NAKED MUST ACT WITH TOES!!!

I know! Even the one time he's barefoot as Sherlock, during that epic pouting fit in GAME, he's twiddling his toes as well as his thumbs.

I see what you mean about really physical acting, even from the clip. He really scrambles around the stage. (I can't help but think of that legendary comic of angrybeige's at the end though. ROLL ME OUTSIDE indeed.)

All I could think of during some parts of the Creature's first 20 minutes onstage was, "his poor parents; trying to find shoes to fit him when he was a teenager..."

Anyway, I have just uploaded one of my favorite clips of Cumberbatch's Metatarsel Method, as it does not seem to exist on YouTube already:

Just look at those piggies wiggle!

(You know how certain members of the male anatomy can sometimes stick their head up to have a look around if they're suddenly and unexpectedly exposed to the outside air? I bet it's like that with his feet. Socks off, whoah; all the little piggies wake right up and get their groove on.)

Also, here's my favourite clip from that Van Gogh movie, before I forget, just so it'll be uploaded somewhere.

I'm glad you were articulate enough to do the show justice. I just got back from seeing a broadcast too and I just can't describe it!

I was literally trembling when we left the theater.

Which casting did you see? I just got back from the Miller!Creature Cumber!stein showing and I liked the other way round much better. Miller's Creature was mostly a pissed off two-year-old with a learning disability, to my mind; Cumberbatch's Creature was a lovely intricate mix of a baby, a stroke victim, and someone who's literally been stitched back together after a horrible accident and my GOD that fucking SONG is STILL IN MY HEAD. It's like if Gregorian chants and yodelling had a baby.

I want to see this thing live so bad I can fucking taste it.

I saw Cumber!Creature and Miller!stein. Most of the reviews I've heard/read have liked it that way best.

Did you have the short little "Making of..." thing at the beginning? They talked about how Cumberbatch studied and drew inspiration from stroke and accident victims and Miller took inspiration from his two-year-old. (No word on whether or not the kid has a learning disability.)

I would still like to see the other version though. That's one of the big reasons I would like them to put this out on DVD.

YES! THAT SONG!!! AND THAT SCENE! I'm getting the soundtrack ASAP, that's for sure.

Yeah, I saw that...the same person who uploaded the clips put the pre-show documentary up on YouTube as well. Also, it might have been on Graham Norton's radio show, but BC said that he also visited a school for autistic children to research his Creature (the writers Nick Dear and Danny Boyle both have autistic sons). Anyway, Cumberbatch's research really made a difference, for my money: I bought JLM's rage and vengeance a lot more, but his Creature lacked a huge amount of the endearing and painful vulnerability of Cumberatch's Creature ( ... )
