I'm glad you were articulate enough to do the show justice. I just got back from seeing a broadcast too and I just can't describe it!

I was literally trembling when we left the theater.

Which casting did you see? I just got back from the Miller!Creature Cumber!stein showing and I liked the other way round much better. Miller's Creature was mostly a pissed off two-year-old with a learning disability, to my mind; Cumberbatch's Creature was a lovely intricate mix of a baby, a stroke victim, and someone who's literally been stitched back together after a horrible accident and my GOD that fucking SONG is STILL IN MY HEAD. It's like if Gregorian chants and yodelling had a baby.

I want to see this thing live so bad I can fucking taste it.

I saw Cumber!Creature and Miller!stein. Most of the reviews I've heard/read have liked it that way best.

Did you have the short little "Making of..." thing at the beginning? They talked about how Cumberbatch studied and drew inspiration from stroke and accident victims and Miller took inspiration from his two-year-old. (No word on whether or not the kid has a learning disability.)

I would still like to see the other version though. That's one of the big reasons I would like them to put this out on DVD.

YES! THAT SONG!!! AND THAT SCENE! I'm getting the soundtrack ASAP, that's for sure.

Yeah, I saw that...the same person who uploaded the clips put the pre-show documentary up on YouTube as well. Also, it might have been on Graham Norton's radio show, but BC said that he also visited a school for autistic children to research his Creature (the writers Nick Dear and Danny Boyle both have autistic sons). Anyway, Cumberbatch's research really made a difference, for my money: I bought JLM's rage and vengeance a lot more, but his Creature lacked a huge amount of the endearing and painful vulnerability of Cumberatch's Creature ( ... )

Yep. I shot off an email to the NT as soon as I got home, then found a petition and signed it. :) I think the NT will be missing the boat big time if they don't put this out on DVD.

In my cursory two-minute Internet search, I have not found a physical copy of the CD. That does not mean there isn't one or won't be one in the near future.

Out of curiosity, were your audiences comprised of Cumberbitches or ye olde theatergoers? My showing was mostly ye olde theatergoers and about 7 Cumberbitches (including myself and the friend I went with). One girl was REALLY into it. She spent the entire show leaning forward and gazing at the screen in awe.

Mostly ye oldies, I think, though there were a few Cumberbitches in attendance. Mostly I heard them rather than saw them...at the evening show, a group of them down near the front found his Creature's line about "perhaps I am a genius too" utterly hilarious, for obviously Sherlockian reasons.

The NT have actually released dvds of their productions in the past. Not many, but there is a precedent, and they do already have two mixed and edited shows all finished and ready to slap onto any potential media they choose. If they faff about much longer, it will be a minor miracle if no one at the participating theatres manages to burn a copy to their hard drive to share with the rest of us later on.

I find that I really, really want to see Cumberbatch rehearsing the Creature without all the makeup. Wouldn't that have been something? No distractions; just raw performance. I bet it'd be breathtaking.

My friend and I tried to keep our Cumberbitching levels to a minimum but we had quite a laugh when he was freaking out about the snow. It didn't help that I leaned over and whispered "Roll me outside!"

You know, I didn't find the Creature make-up as distracting as I thought I would.

I really loved the scars on his back that looked like "INSERT KIDNEY A INTO SLOT A AND KIDNEY B INTO SLOT B." But you're right, I would like to see him Creature-ing without the make-up.
